Porsche 133 Tractor Diesel — 1956

Fun tractor in fine working and attractive condition. Unusual driving experience, but a tractor from this marque nonetheless has a special driving pleasure for being a tractor.

"As a jewel or for neat utility? A tractor from a brand considered one of the strongest has an equally strong appeal in many ways."

Description

According to records, it was sold new to a Hilding in Vejbystrand where the tractor remained in the family until 1983 when a local farmer Albinssson took over its care and used it occasionally on his farm before storing it in his barn. There it ended up tucked away among other tractors, threshers and machinery. Albinssson was a collector. The current owner had to move many machines to get it out into daylight. The tractor stood in his garage for a couple of years as well, but it was restored 10 years ago.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Starts easily and freely, is surprisingly pleasant and easy to drive with gears and positions that are smooth to learn. The power take-off gear lever is nicely marked with Swedish plates. When the current owner brought the tractor home, he fitted a new battery, carried out an oil service, changed all filters and it started. After 30 years of standing idle. The brakes were fitted with new linings and received a general overhaul.

  • Interior condition

Sheet metal seat. Good not to have long legs. Unrestored original speedometer and hour meter are present and included.

  • Exterior condition

Repainted a few years ago, the bonnet is nicely filled and sanded. Some colour dust here and there and a few minor areas are over-sprayed. The powder-coated wheels have some spots that are easy to polish out. New and expensive tyres were fitted 10 years ago and have not covered many kilometres. New rear lights are not fitted and come loose with the car. The overall exterior impression is neat and representative.

  • General condition

Proud and handsome representative of the brand's tractor gang. Fun to see the short wheelbase and the large wheels all around.

Facts about the model

The Porsche-Diesel 133 originated from Ferdinand Porsche's vision from the 1930s to build a robust and simple "people's tractor" for agriculture. After the war, Porsche established a cooperation with machinery manufacturer Allgaier to realize the design with air-cooled diesel engines. The model 133 was equipped with a powerful air-cooled three-cylinder diesel engine of 2,467 cc that delivered approximately 35 hp. Power was transmitted through a 5-speed gearbox with first gear as a low creeper gear, which earned great appreciation among farmers for precision work in the fields. In 1956, the industrial conglomerate Mannesmann AG took over the license and production through the newly formed company Porsche-Diesel Motorenbau GmbH, and production was relocated to a large former Zeppelin factory in Friedrichshafen-Manzell on Lake Constance. During this period, the tractor acquired its characteristic red colour and the distinctive appearance that today makes it a sought-after collector's item. Production of the P 133 continued through the mid-1950s and paved the way for later models such as the Super series before all manufacturing finally ceased in 1963 and Porsche Diesel was sold to Renault, though several technical solutions lived on. Spare parts remain readily available.
