"A basic Saab from the 1980s in an unusually well-preserved original condition. Despite its simplicity, it was often more advanced than its competitors. Both technically and in terms of its exterior and interior, this is a pleasant and well-preserved vehicle, with the potential to be further enhanced with simple means."

Description

The first owner, an enthusiast who exclusively owned and drove Saab cars, acquired this vehicle as a company car for his business in June 1984. When it was time for a new company car three years later, he decided to keep the car and transferred ownership to his wife. In October 2000, the car was transferred back to him and it served as an enthusiast's car, driven only during the summer and always kept in the garage the rest of the time. The odometer reading is now 127 920 km, which means it has covered less than 1,000 miles over the last 10-12 years.

The car was ordered with a five-speed gearbox (optional) and is equipped with a period-correct Clarion stereo with radio and cassette player, as well as a cardan console for tapes, etc. There is a heater with a timer, but its function is uncertain. An retractable towbar is also installed in the car. Original Saab rubber floor mats are included. The folder with the owner's manual, service booklet, and stereo manual is included. The folder also contains older inspection reports and receipts. The car is ready to drive with a new battery installed in August and it has been recently inspected on September 2nd.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car starts easily (with manual choke) and the engine runs smoothly. Gears, clutch, and brakes are functioning well. All features appear to be working. The undercarriage looks good, and all door undersides are intact. There's a slight corrosion on the threshold at the left rear entry. A car that has been driven minimally in recent years should be inspected and serviced.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is complete and in its original condition. Comfortable seats and rear bench, nice door panels, and carpets. The headliner is in good condition and properly in place. Gentle cleaning will enhance the interior even further.

  • Exterior condition:

Nice and glossy paintwork with small scratches and some stone chips, but otherwise very nice for its age. Glass, rubber, and chrome are all in good condition. Wheels and hubcaps are in good condition with a little patina. Different tires at the front and back, GoodYear/Nokian. Engine and trunk area are in good condition.

  • General condition:

Over its almost 40 years, this car has gone through three stages: company car, secondary car, and summer car - always with enthusiasm and a Saab heart from the owner. At the next Saab meet, this car will be more unique than the multitude of Turbo restorations. It's in a well-preserved original condition and stands out as a true classic of Swedish design.

Facts about the model

Saab persevered and sold relatively well during the 1970s. The models were starting to age a bit, particularly the Saab 96. In May 1978, the new Saab 900 was introduced, which was an evolution of the Saab 99 but with an entirely different aura. With its elongated body, it felt unique and attracted many new buyers worldwide. From the model years 1979 to 1994, a variety of versions were produced, including 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-door body styles. These ranged from practical family cars with ample space to stylish cabriolet models.

The sedan version with four doors was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in the spring of 1980. By 1984, all models received a new grille, and heated front seats became a standard feature. The GL model was equipped with the tried and tested two-liter engine, featuring a single carburetor and a manual choke, producing 100 hp.

During these years, Saab introduced numerous technical innovations and unique solutions that often defined the brand's identity and appealed to its buyers. Saab drivers were not just mainstream individuals; they were part of the Saab community, with the Turbo spirit hovering over the entire experience. It's an impressive accomplishment from a small manufacturer situated in the chilly northern regions.
