"An MG B GT is a late practical MG in a sort of functional hatchback-coupe design. You'll need to get accustomed to the right-hand drive."

Description

It was delivered new in its home country in September 1978 and was imported to Sweden from England 30 years later, in May 2008. The current owner purchased it a year later with a fresh driver's license as her first car. She was working in Stockholm's fashion industry at the time, cruising around in her right-hand drive MGB, feeling cool. And it wasn't just a feeling; she truly was. An MGB GT as a daily driver can never go wrong, no matter the industry you work in. Over the past 10 years, there hasn't been much driving, not even 1000 km, and the MG has mostly been parked on a farm in storage. There's good and extensive documentation from its home country, and the mileage of just over 62 000 km feels reasonable when looking at the English documentation, but it can't be definitively verified.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

It starts easily and feels lively, but it needs a new battery. The middle muffler has a loose component causing some rattling. The overdrive didn't work during the test drive; perhaps we'll have time for an initial diagnosis while the car is at the Classic Car Depot in Sandared, just outside Borås.

  • Interior condition

Interior in original condition, good for its age with no significant wear or any damages. Carpets and headliner are also in good condition.

  • Exterior condition

The paint has been touched up in a couple of places, but it still looks presentable, even with the typical '80s body coat on the sills. There's a repair on one of the sills that hasn't held up very well, but otherwise, the car is in good condition underneath.

  • General condition

A right-hand drive enthusiast's usable classic for the summer months, which, with relatively modest investment, can become even more presentable.

Facts about the model

The covered shooting brake version of the MGB GT was introduced in 1965 and was designed by Pininfarina. With significantly more luggage space than the Roadster, it was also much more practical, with differences mostly limited to alternative springs and sway bars. The MGC was a six-cylinder version sold between 1967 and 1969, and the most robust variant was the MGB V8 – equipped with the small aluminum V8 engine from Rover. Thanks to the large production volume of the MGB, which continued until the 1980s, all spare parts and accessories are still available for purchase, both as original components and newly manufactured aftermarket parts. It's a sought-after and appreciated sporty and relatively practical hobby car that has increased in value in recent years, both in Europe and the USA.
