Description

This motorcycle is a rarity. We only know of two 600cc New Hudsons of the 1929 model. A copy is at The National Motorcycle Museum in England. The museum is considered the world's largest and finest museum of British motorcycles. The other copy is in Värmland. The motorcycle is sold in Sweden and was imported in 1929 by the Swedish general agent Motorfirma Ernst Larsson in Norrköping. During the 1970s, the motorcycle was renovated and restored to its original condition. It is as nice today as it was after the renovation, or as it was in 1929. We have found the person who renovated the motorcycle and who was then the sole owner until 2014. We are attaching the letter with the exciting history. According to experts consulted, these are the only two known complete and drivable 600cc New Hudsons of the 1929 model year. There shall be 1 frame in England, 2 loose engines in Germany and another 2 loose engines in Czechoslovakia. However, these 4 engines in total lack frames and are in unknown condition. The Swedish-sold New Hudson that we are now selling to a collector works without any complaints and is ready to drive.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

600cc side valve engine. Starts easily and runs well with no complaints. Used on the veteran rally in both Sweden and Norway without operational disruption

  • Interior condition:

Nice saddle of the right model.

  • Exterior condition:

Renovated to the original design in the 1970s. Still looks just as nice. The bracket on the headlight housing on the left side has received a thorn. See pictures. A light polish after sitting idle for the past 2 years would give the motorcycle more shine. See the attached letter for more information about the renovation.

  • General condition:

Extremely nice overall impression and is nice to drive. Unique opportunity for collectors international or Swedish investors.

Facts about the model

New Hudson Motorcycles was a British motorcycle manufacturer. Founded in 1903 by George Patterson in Birmingham, their first motorcycle was produced in 1902 but was unsuccessful. The New Hudson range expanded between 1910 and 1915 using JAP engines, then the factory joined the war effort until 1919. As well as side-valve and OHV single-cylinder engines of 350 to 600 cc, they also built a 211 cc two-stroke and a number of three-wheelers with MAG engines. In 1927 Bert le Vack broke the 100 miles per hour (160 km/h) record at Brooklands on a 500 cc New Hudson.
1929 was the last year New Hudson offered the 600cc side valve. Very few 600cc were produced in 1929. In 1932 due to the depression motor cycle production ceased as it was no longer profitable. However, the company continued to make bicycles, and also diversified into making the Girling brake systems for cars and changed their name to Girling Ltd – which still exists as a brake-component company. Bikes were made under the New Hudson name after the Second World War, when they became a subsidiary of Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA) and manufactured successful autocycles until 1957.
