Volvo 1800S B20 — 1969

This 1800s has a fun and preserved smuggling history in the East during the cold war, and has undergone a full nut and bolt renovation. Many consider it to be one of the best in the country, with its B20 engine under the hood.

"This car stands out for its meticulous restoration, but it also has a lot of charm and a great backstory."

Description

The car was sold new to an owner on Lidingö in Stockholm in the spring of 1969. It was also with that owner that the dollar bills and Cuban cigars were transported behind the Iron Curtain to former East Germany. During the previous owner's renovation, relics from that trip were discovered. Then he discovered a Havana cigar in a tin case beneath the carpet, as well as some rolled up dollars beneath the instrument panel. The renovation was done meticulously, and the previous owner did not rush it; in fact, it took 13 years to complete and was completed in 2016.
The current owner bought the car in 2020 after looking for a really nice 1800S for a long time and being unable to resist when this one appeared not far from his home towns. The only reason he's selling the car is that he thinks it's too nice and is afraid that the car will be damaged in traffic.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Mechanically, the car is in excellent condition, from the brakes to the wheels, suspension, gearbox and engine. Everything has been renovated or replaced with new components. The only mechanical component that has not been disassembled is the rear axle, which has been painted, measured, and checked.

  • Interior condition:

Untouched leather seats in a beautifully patinated tobacco color, with the rest of the interior looking brand new. The original seat belts are not fitted, as is an international fuel gauge. The renovating owner changed it because he preferred one with Swedish text instead of the one with "Fuel," even though the one with "Fuel" was there from the start.

  • Exterior condition:

A thorough and high-quality painting job in several layers with a fine depth. It rides on 5.5-inch wheels for show, which is a common practice among vintage Volvo enthusiasts

  • General condition:

A detailed, well-renovated 1800S in excellent condition, as well as a slightly unusual - but beautiful and period-appropriate - color for the model, Volvo 99 Mediterranean Blue.
