Description

On January 9, 1972, Gunnar Persson of Ambjörby in northern Värmland purchased the car new from Volvo dealer Claes Nybergs bil AB in Hagfors. The car cost nearly SEK 28,800, or nearly 30% more than the standard-equipped DL model at the time, which cost SEK 22,400. Because it was the top model and most sporty Volvo available, the car had been a show car at Nybergs (apart from the P1800). This car was outfitted with an automatic transmission and a 164 chrome-trim package, as well as all Grand-Luxe equipment sill and wing trims.

The car has now been sold for the buyer's daughter and has been a family heirloom for the past 20 years, only being driven in the summer. All documents dating back to the car's purchase are included. The car has traveled 23,600 kilometers since new and has always been kept in the same garage, which explains why it has performed so well. There is no damage, but some paint repairs and surface rust on the edges and engine compartment details. With carpets, upholstery, a dashboard, and a nice headliner, the interior is complete and appealing. The car performs wonderfully, thanks to a nimble and powerful 130-horsepower engine, as opposed to the DL model's 85-horsepower engine. It is immediately clear that this is a well-kept car. Nice, usable collector's condition that can be refurbished and tidied up to keep it in top condition.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

It has been off the road since 2013, and has only started a few times each summer since then. Now serviced and reviewed in the workshop, driven to the car inspection/MOT center, and approved without any remarks.

  • Interior condition:

The decor is complete and appealing. Fresh leather upholstery with only a few small cracks on the outside of the driver's seat, as shown in the photo.

  • Exterior condition:

Both the body and the paintwork are nice. The hood and tailgate have been improved, and it was repainted many years ago. There are no rust damages, but there are a few surface rust dots on the roof rails and wing edges.

  • General condition:

142 in unrenovated original condition that is unusually complete and fine. There are signs of use, but no damage. A thorough refurbishment on the inside, in the engine compartment and luggage, as well as on the outside, followed by machine polishing and leather treatment, will leave the car in excellent condition without the need for renovation. Collectors have a one-of-a-kind opportunity to acquire one of Volvo's finest 1970s models.

According to an article in the Swedish magazine Klassiker, there are only two Volvo 142 Grand Luxes still on the road in Sweden, making this a true one-of-a-kind car.
