"A car for the discerning car enthusiast, as good technically as it is nice to look at. No remarks."

Description

A beautifully renovated Chevrolet Coach. The car history began in 1931, when Norsholm farmer Ivar Eriksson saved enough money to purchase a car. This was a big deal in the 1930s. Purchasing a car was a pure luxury. A 1931 Chevrolet with a straight six-cylinder engine of 3.2 litres and 51 horsepower was chosen.   Ivar Eriksson loved his car and maintained it on the road until 1965. When Svensk Bilprovning (MOT´s) began in 1965, he did not inspect the car and instead parked it in the barn. Many people courted Eriksson and wanted to buy the car in the years that followed. But Ivar took good care of his car and was concerned that it would fall into the wrong hands. Stig Björk, a car repairman, eventually became acquainted with the Eriksson family. When Ivar Eriksson died in 1981, the Stig family approached family and asked if he wanted to sell the Chevrolet. Ivar had hoped that the car would find a decent home. In the years that followed, Stig Björk dismantled the car piece by piece and meticulously rebuilt it. When the renovation began, the car was already drivable and in reasonable shape. But Stig wants to restore it to its former glory as a homage to his buddy Ivar Eriksson. Bil & Marintextil in Linköping reuppholstered the interior. They were able to obtain the correct fabric in the original colour green. In 1931, the interior was available in three different colours. Green, grey, or brown. Stig rebuilt the engine himself, installing new bearings and pistons. The original was built of cast iron, but Stig obtained new aluminium pistons.  The air filter is the only thing that differs from the original. It belongs to an Opel Captain, the original air filter has been saved. The restoration was finished in 2010, and the car has been driven lightly during the summer. Stig claims that following the refurbishment, he never drove the car in the wet or on a gravel road. Stig claims that he painstakingly adjusted all of the engine settings so that the six-cylinder engine runs at barely 1 litre per 10 km. Original instruction book and a duplicate of the original registration certificate are included. The car has been on display at the Kisa Bilmuseum, and there is now an opportunity to purchase this lovely car with a wonderful history and only two owners since new.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine starts readily and smoothly. At low revs, it is really powerful. The torque produced by a six-cylinder engine is vastly different from that of a straight four. There will be no noise when shifting gears if you know how to double clutch and adapt the engine speed to the transmission.  These gearboxes lack synchronisation rings.  During the  test drive and the car performs well. The car's mileage is unclear, but 82-year-old renovator Stig Björk estimates that it has driven between 100,000 and 150,000 kilometers.

  • Interior condition:

Interior has been completely reupholstered and is in excellent condition. After renovation, there are just minor evidence of use. As a precaution, the owner has installed additional floor mats. Look at the photos. Inside is the original owner's plate.

  • Exterior condition:

Renovated to excellent condition, with no rust or damage. Look at the photos. Suitcase for the car is included. The car's original spare wheel holder is mounted on the rear

  • General condition:

Rare fine condition. The information about the car is based on telephone conversations with the now 82-year-old renovator Stig Björk, who knows everything about the car. We have tested the car and it starts and drives easily and pulls hard on all gears. Fully drivable condition.
