Description

Czechoslovakia. The Tatra designers are said to have been inspired by Saab's "Ursaab" 92001. The T600 was produced in slightly over 6,300 units till 1952. Because the Tatra factory was designed primarily for heavy vehicles, production was moved to Skoda's car factory in Kopivnice (1948-1951). They were built in Mladá Boleslav between 1951 and 1952.
These variants were powered by a 1952 cc air-cooled four-cylinder engine. Ferdinand Porsche was extensively involved in the design of this rear-mounted car. As a result, it is relatively simple to install a VW or Porsche engine in these. Many people did this when spare parts for the Tatra engines were no longer available.
After the Russian invasion of Czechoslovakia in the late 1960s, it became impossible to procure spare parts.
According to reports, 184 Tatra cars were imported into Sweden. We have no idea how many of these were Tatraplan. The Czechoslovak embassy gave them to trusted Swedes. Many were politically bound or thought to endorse the Czech government's viewpoints. According to information provided by Czech Tatras collectors. However, there was a  general agent Lindblad's car in Stockholm that was used to deliver the cars.
