Description

Original sold on 10-8-1961 to Stig Kopp from Seglora with original registration number P10815. This is a rare opportunity to find such an early Jensen manufactured P1800 with chassis number 296. The current owner bought the car in 1996 and has driven it regularly during the summer months and always stored in a warm garage over winter. The current mileage is 55,000km which probably more like 150,000km since it was sold new. Overall the car is original apart from the sills have been professionally replaced and the car underwent a rust prevention treatment before being repainted hence is rust free condition now. Seats were replaced from a P1800 ES. The car runs and drives perfectly and looks great but some of the gauges and clock need renovating. The car comes with lots of receipts for work carried out.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starts directly and drives very well, renovated SU carbs, new brakes servo very well maintained mechanically. The following gauges and instruments need renovating clock, water, and oil and rev counter

  • Interior condition:

Clean and fresh interior that includes a new full carpet kit, the driver’s seat has a small pull in the seam that just needs stitching. The seats aren’t original that lowers the score they are from a P1800 ES.

  • Exterior condition:

Very clean and presentable paintwork with good chrome work could be improved with a polish or just leave as it is. 15 years ago the sills have been professionally replaced and repainted. The cars underwent a full Dinitrol rust prevention treatment many years ago and that reflected in its present condition. 3 small paint blisters on the passenger wing and some standard stones chip.

  • General condition:

Nice and well looked after example of a very early P1800; the owner drives the car regularly during the summer and driven 25000 km in the past 24 years..

Facts about the model

Many are familiar with the exciting story of the son of the Volvo manager who, at the end of the 1950, practised at the design company Frua in Italy. The son is Pelle Petter's son and his sketches were those that Volvo chose when they hired Frua to draw an elegant GT car that would be the successor to the Sport model Volvo Sport (P1900). (That Pelle designed the car, however, was kept secret for many years.)
The car premiered 1962 and was built until 1972 as the coupe ´ model. Hereafter for a further 1.5 years as Sportbackmodell which was named P1800 ES. The first years the plate was pressed and the cars were put together under license with Jensen in England.
During 1964 the production was moved to Gothenburg and the cars were added to the model designation (P1800S). In total, approximately 30.000 cars were built by P1800, P1800S, P1800E and P1800 ES, from 1962 to 1973. Many went on export to the United States and in the southern parts where the climate is favorable, they survived when the technology is almost indestructible. Corrosion, however, destroyed the cars in Sweden and Europe. For this reason, this particular car is particularly unique, since it has never been damaged by rust. Finally, I would like to mention that the car that has rolled the longest in the world, with the same owner is a P 1800, which has now passed 250.000 mil. Must be extra fun to drive so far in just such a car because it is also regarded as one of the world's most beautiful cars. Lines and shapes that attract attention wherever you come.
