Jaguar E-Type OTS Roadster V12 — 1974

The final model year of its series, built and delivered in 1974, imported in 1987 in fine original condition, and first registered in Sweden in 2019. Likely a low-mileage example with few owners, both in the U.S. and in Sweden.

"Smooth on the road with a refined feel in the drivetrain. Making the aesthetic (and financial) effort to replace the large bumper guards with the smaller chrome ones may be a matter of taste — but with them, the car definitely achieves a more balanced look."

"Smooth on the road with a refined feel in the drivetrain. Making the aesthetic (and financial) effort to replace the large bumper guards with the smaller chrome ones may be a matter of taste — but with them, the car definitely achieves a more balanced look."

Description

It was sold new in the U.S. in 1974 and imported to Sweden in 1987. The large protruding plastic bumper guards were introduced on U.S. models in 1973 (front only) and 1974 (both front and rear). Many owners of those model years replace them with European-style bumpers, and conversion kits for this purpose are readily available.

The current owner purchased the car in 1994 and drove it only occasionally under temporary registration (“green plates”). It wasn’t until 2019 that the car underwent a registration inspection and was officially assigned a Swedish identity, equipped with a km/h speedometer showing 13,820 km. Whether that reading was adjusted to correspond with the original MPH speedometer is unknown.

Since then, the car has only been driven just over 50 km, with the most recent and final inspection completed on July 14, 2022. The current odometer reading is 14,338 km.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starts quickly and sounds great, with the automatic transmission shifting smoothly and correctly. The chassis and brakes feel solid and well-balanced. Prior to the registration inspection in 2019, a comprehensive technical inspection and servicing of the engine, transmission, brakes, and chassis was carried out.

  • Interior condition:

Original interior in a pleasant, lightly patinated condition, indicating low mileage. The leather seats show no wear and remain supple. Features an original wood accessory steering wheel, clean carpets, and tidy door panels. The period radio works well and fits neatly into the dashboard with the correct vintage look.

  • Exterior condition:

Repainted prior to import, in presentable and attractive condition, with a few stone chips and one larger chip on the front section of the hood. The soft top is intact and clean, accompanied by a black tonneau cover and a black cockpit cover — all in good condition. Nice wire wheels fitted with newer Maxxis tires.

  • General condition:

A well-preserved and authentic example in fine, presentable condition, featuring low mileage, well-functioning mechanics, and period-correct charm. Signs of age are present, but overall, it gives the impression of a well-cared-for, road-ready, and collectible car.

Facts about the model

The Jaguar E-Type V12 Series 3 was the final version of the now-legendary model, produced between 1971 and 1975. It was also the most powerful iteration of the E-Type, featuring the new 5.3-liter V12 engine producing 272 horsepower, along with a host of other technical improvements that made it both more exclusive and highly sought after in its segment.

For its time, the V12 engine was a relatively advanced and sophisticated piece of engineering, developed by Jaguar over several years. It was originally intended for another model that never went into production, but the factory recognized its potential for the E-Type. The result was a car that was even more potent than its predecessors — yet still retained the same beautifully timeless design expression.
