"A pleasant Berline 11 that could become even nicer after start-up and a general overhaul."

Description

This 1953 Citroën Berline 11 Normale offers a well-documented history and restoration work of the highest standard.
The car's documented history stretches back to its first registration on September 24, 1952, when it was delivered to Ingemar Larsson in Lund. According to information from previous owners, the car later led an unusually adventurous life when it was purchased by two biologists who undertook an extended journey through Europe. The trip went via Spain onward to Morocco and along the African coast before the car was shipped to Italy and subsequently returned to Sweden.
The car was originally black but was later repainted in a gray color. Correspondence with previous owners has been preserved and accompanies the car, providing a unique insight into its history and use over the years.
The current owner's family acquired the car on February 2, 1992, when Rolf Jeppsson purchased it in Tyresö outside Stockholm. At the time of purchase, the car had been standing abandoned outdoors since around 1970. Its potential was recognized, and a comprehensive total restoration was undertaken.
The restoration was carried out with great care and with the goal of returning the car to a condition equal to or better than its original factory specification. All receipts and documents from the restoration have been saved and accompany the car together with the rest of the documentation. Historical documents, ownership records, and correspondence with previous owners are also included, providing unusually complete documentation.
Since the restoration, the car has been used very sparingly. It has primarily been enjoyed at weddings, formal occasions, and classic car events, and has participated in several B11 meets around Sweden. The car has been carefully maintained throughout and stored in a manner that has preserved its very high standard.
The car's condition was assessed in connection with the MHRF insurance inspection and classified as "Excellent/Absolute Top Condition."
Here is an opportunity to acquire a classic Citroën Traction Avant in very fine condition. The combination of history, condition, and documentation makes this car an exceptionally attractive collector vehicle. The car comes with a large quantity of spare parts, see photos.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Not started in approximately 10 years. The engine turns over with a hand crank.

  • Interior condition

The interior as a whole is in very good condition, apart from the headliner, which shows large moisture stains. Despite this, the overall condition is very good.

  • Exterior condition

Beautiful professional paintwork. There is some minor damage at the hole in the grille intended for the hand crank, see photo. The hood is loose for easier access but can be mounted as it should be. The hood has some minor paint damage/scratches. The underbody also appears to be in good condition. Very nice and well cared for.

  • General condition

An unstarted but very well-restored B11 Normale. A Citroën Traction Avant in this condition, with this history and documentation, is hard to find on the market. It represents a piece of Swedish and European automotive history, carefully preserved for the future.

Facts about the model

Boldness, creativity, and engineering are three words associated with one of the pioneers of the automotive industry, André Citroën, who in 1919 founded the car company named after his surname. The first model to leave the factory at Quai de Javel in Paris was the Citroën Type A. From the very beginning, the company became synonymous with unconventional and technically advanced cars with distinctive design. The 1930s brought the first big seller, the Traction Avant, created by André Lefèbvre and Flamino Bertoni. It was modern for its time, featuring front-wheel drive, a low center of gravity, and excellent road manners. Production began in the spring of 1934 with the 7A version, which quickly became the 7B that same year with a 1.5-liter engine producing 35 hp. In the fall came the 11A version with a larger body. After various stages of development, the 11B version arrived in February 1937. After World War II, production resumed in the fall of 1945. Initially, only Berline versions were built, and the cars came to be called B11, which simply stands for Berline 11, i.e., a sedan in tax class 11CV, equivalent to 56 hp. The larger and somewhat more luxurious sister model, the B15, with a larger six-cylinder engine, was in tax class 15CV with its bigger engine. In July 1957, production was discontinued in favor of the new DS model. Toward the end of production, however, the new hydropneumatic system was tested in the 15 H model, with the new suspension on the rear axle. During the years 1934 - 1957, when the Traction Avant was manufactured, a wide range of bodies and configurations were produced, with four- and six-cylinder engines ranging from 34 hp to 77 hp. The most common bodies were the Légère (Sport), Normale, and Familiale. Traction Avant was never an official designation; the cars were simply called B7 - B15 with suffixes for body style, but they were also known as the "Gangstercittra" after prominent supporting roles in French films. In total, a reported 759,123 examples were built.
