Description
He later decided to sell the car to finance the publication of a book on an important subject, and the current owner bought the PV in 2021 with the ambition to further refine an already good 1966 G model into an excellent driver. He has carried out a number of improvements, though he notes there are still a few things left to do — such as replacing all rubber seals, tidying up the engine bay, and painting areas where the primer is still visible.
Now, however, he has found a genuine U.S.-exported Sport from 1964 and intends to focus his efforts on that car instead.
Nice documentation is included: warranty booklet, the first owner’s service card still attached to the left door, photos from the restoration, the original 1965 registration certificate, and numerous inspection reports. The most recent (and final) approved inspection was completed on July 25, 2017.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
Engine and gearbox feel familiar and reliable. The current owner has rebuilt the entire front suspension, which now feels tight and solid in both handling and response — the same goes for the brakes.
-
Interior condition
Original interior in good condition, including carpets, door panels, and headliner. A few seams on the seat cushions have come loose. The wrinkle-finish paint on the instrument cluster is intact and clean. Rear seat belts have been installed, and a modern stereo is discreetly mounted in the glove compartment.
-
Exterior condition
Pleasant exterior in presentable condition. The roof has been nicely repainted after a minor scratch sustained during winter storage. The car features fiberglass fenders all around, with a surprisingly good finish. Nice chrome. Older Vredestein tires with good tread, mounted on original steel wheels with attractive hubcaps. The right-hand side mirror is included, though its mounting position is slightly off.
-
General condition
A representative G model, albeit with fiberglass fenders that are nicely fitted. A car well suited for tasteful enthusiast use, with just a few minor details to refine if desired.

Facts about the model
As a result, the Volvo PV 544 G series was produced for only two months before the final PV rolled off the line on October 26, 1966. This makes the G-series models rarer and more sought after — and they also featured a number of improvements unique to that model year.
