"These cars capture the spirit of Lotus founder Colin Chapman—lightweight, nimble, and full of character. They deliver the true feeling of a classic English sports car. At 185 cm tall, I fit comfortably behind the wheel, which speaks to the clever and efficient design. You hardly ever see them on the road, making this a rare and exciting driver’s car. It is a right-hand-drive car."

Description

The car has an interesting ownership history. It was first sold new on February 22, 1972, to its original owner. Around 1978–1979, it was purchased by the second owner, who later sold it to a third owner within the same family. In 1986, the car was exported to Sweden, where the current owner acquired it in 1993 and began a comprehensive renovation that lasted over a decade. The renovation was completed, and the car was re-registered in 2004.

Old receipts from Spyder Limited show that the car received chassis repairs, sandblasting, and replacement of worn components. However, it essentially required a full restoration when purchased in 1993. Included with the car are older photographs documenting the restoration process, which involved a complete body overhaul, as well as numerous receipts for work carried out by Morgan at Bennets Lotus Specialist in Lerum.

Now, after more than 30 years of ownership, the current owner has decided to sell. The decision is purely practical—getting in and out of the car has become more difficult, and there is less time to fully enjoy it. Over the past eight years, the car has been driven approximately 3,000 kilometers during the summer months. A selection of older documentation and receipts is included with the car.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car starts easily, the engine runs well, and the gearbox shifts smoothly with solid brakes. A routine service is recommended, as it hasn’t been driven much in recent years. The oil pipe between the block needs replacing—it’s currently temporarily repaired with red rubber sealer, and a new replacement part is included. The rear left wheel is slightly unbalanced and may need inspection, possibly a hub, wheel bearing or wheels studs replacement. There is also a crack in the rear light lens. The engine bay would benefit from repainting of the valve cover for improved appearance. It comes with a good set of alloy wheels fitted with older but still usable tires.

  • Interior condition:

Interior is clean and well-maintained, having been renovated over 20 years ago. The seats are in good condition overall, with only slight wear on the driver’s seat bolster. The headliner, mats, carpets, and door cards are all in good condition, showing only minor wear near the pedals. The wooden dashboard has small varnish cracks consistent with age, while all instruments work properly, and the original radio is still in place.

  • Exterior condition:

The fiberglass body eliminates any rust concerns, and the bodywork is clean with bright chrome details. The paint shows minor gelcoat cracks on the bonnet and boot lid (see pictures). On the passenger side, there are some dark marks on the front wing, door, and rear wheel arch. A few small paint chips, a light scuff on the lower sill, and two extra drill holes from door adjustment are also noted—these could easily be covered with rubber plugs for a neater finish. The underbody is clean and features a solid framework, with a hole in the right-side fiberglass from a previous petrol tank replacement

  • General condition:

The renovation, completed over 20 years ago, has stood the test of time, and the car remains in good condition. A few minor cosmetic details could be refined to enhance its appearance, and some attention to the engine bay—along with a routine service—is recommended. It’s fully driveable in its current state, with the flexibility to make further improvements gradually over time.
