"If you want to have a unique car model at this summer's car shows, this is the car for you."

Description

A very beautiful and rare Riley. According to the owner, there are only two in Sweden, 12 in England, and just 20 worldwide. Registered in Sweden in 1985 in Örebro. The current owner purchased the car in 2000. There is potential for improvement, including some rust issues, worn door seals, and the need for leather repairs on the rear seat. A general refresh of the interior and a polish of the paint would definitely enhance the overall impression. The car has likely been repainted, either partially or fully. Even though the car has right-hand drive, the gear shift is unusually placed on the right side of the driver's seat. A bit of acrobatics is required when getting into the driver's seat.

Note! The odometer resets at 100,000 miles, and we do not know how many times it has rolled over.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Straight six, 2.6 liters and just over 100 horsepower. The car has not been test driven by us due to a malfunctioning fuel pump. According to the owner, the engine and transmission work flawlessly, as do all electrical functions.

  • Interior condition:

Wonderfully patinated leather interior, and it smells English in the car as it should. A leather treatment is due. Nice wood panels, though it's uncertain if any part of the dashboard has been replaced. There is a slight color difference. Nice headliner, door panels, and carpets. However, the carpets should be refreshed. The door seals are bad at all doors.

  • Exterior condition:

The paint is in good condition, but a polishing would enhance the exterior. Chrome, trims, and glass are in usable condition. There are a few rust spots on the doors (see pictures). An inspection of the underside on a lift has not been possible, but what can be seen looks good.

  • General condition:

A beautiful car that, with some time and love, could be made really nice.

Facts about the model

The Riley Two-Point-Six is an automobile produced by British Motor Corporation Limited (BMC) from August 1957 until 1959. It replaced the Pathfinder as Riley's flagship model when it was announced on 23 August 1957. While its predecessor retained the renowned Riley four-cylinder twin-cam cross-flow engine, coil rear suspension and gearbox, the Two-Point-Six was virtually identical to the Wolseley Six-Ninety Series III. It featured both monotone and duotone paintwork, as did the last of the Pathfinders. As per the Wolseley Six-Ninety Series III, right hand drive cars with a manual gearbox had a right hand gear lever; LHD cars a left hand gear lever. An automatic transmission and an overdrive for the manual gearbox were available as options.

Externally the most obvious differences from the Pathfinder were the bonnet arrangement – while the Pathfinder's grille lifted with the bonnet, the Two-Point-Six, in common with the 6/90, had a fixed grille – and the wheel arches having a raised edge.

It used the BMC C-Series straight-6, an engine that produced 101 hp (75 kW). This was actually less than the 2½ Litre Riley "Big Four" straight-four engine it replaced. The Two-Point-Six was sold to a specific clientele and was never intended to be mass-produced. It sold at the same pro-rata rate as the previous Riley Pathfinder until the end of production in May 1959. It was the last large Riley, although BMC kept the badge alive in replacing it with the Farina-styled Riley 4/68, similar to the Wolseley 15/60 and MG Magnette.
