Description

On February 7, 1980, Mr. Stenman picked up his brand-new car from the dealer Bilkompaniet in Luleå. It was no ordinary car that Stenman had purchased. It was a Saab 99 Turbo with 145 horsepower in the beautiful acacia green metallic paint. In addition, it featured the special sport interior that was only available in the Turbo and EMS models. We can conclude that Mr. Stenman was very satisfied with his exclusive car, as he kept his Saab for a full 28 years. It wasn't until 2008 that a neighbor bought the car. The new owner had extensive knowledge of Saab, as he had previously built and driven Saab rally cars. He began a full restoration of the car. It was disassembled, and the body was sanded down to bare metal before being repainted by a local paint shop. They finished it off by applying four layers of clear coat. The front and rear suspensions were disassembled, sandblasted, and painted. All bushings and joints were replaced. Everything related to the brakes was replaced with new parts. The gearbox had been rebuilt by the first owner, so that work was not necessary. The first owner was a meticulous gentleman who always changed the engine oil at 7,000 km intervals. The engine runs so smoothly that during the restoration, it was decided that disassembling it was unnecessary. The car was completed in 2014 after the restoration. The owner then upgraded the car with an intercooler from a Saab 900 Turbo. (The intercooler first appeared on the 900 model, and this conversion was well executed, looking almost factory-installed.) The car has been driven about 600-700 km per year since the restoration was completed. In 2023, a Garett replacement turbo and a factory-new wastegate valve were installed. A newly manufactured front spoiler with the correct type of cooling grille, made by RP fiberglass in Kalix, was also added. The owner is now parting with the car because he sold his house and moved into an apartment. He owns several vintage Saab cars and no longer has space for all of them. The odometer reads 258,000 km, and we have no reason to believe otherwise. The car comes with a spare wheel on an Inca alloy rim and the original jack. There is only one set of keys for the car, but a blank key is included.

This is a distance auction where the images and information about the car have been provided by the owner. BWA has not inspected the car in person.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

All technical aspects have been reviewed and renovated except for the engine block. Runs smoothly and steadily on the road according to the owner. Upgraded with a Turbo Intercooler from a Saab 900. 4-speed manual transmission. Everything regarding the brakes has been replaced with new parts during the renovation. New Bilstein shock absorbers all around. New exhaust system. The only technical remark is a small oil leak from the front seal of the engine, nothing major. For more info, see the description.

  • Interior condition:

The sleek sports interior that was only available in the Turbo and EMS models. Here you'll find a turbo pressure gauge, tachometer, and not least a speedometer graded up to 240 km/h. New headliner. Attractive interior with minor wear on the driver's seat.

  • Exterior condition:

Completely disassembled and the body was sandblasted to bare metal during the repainting about 10 years ago. The interior was also painted. Very costly and fine paint job. Upon close inspection, a minor flaw in the paint can be seen on the front of the hood. See picture. A similar discrepancy is present on the upper edge of one of the rear fenders, at the narrow edge near the trunk lid. In other words, nothing major. Equipped with Inka rims, rubber spoilers at the back, wind deflectors on the doors. New front spoiler (authentic reproduction) The side moldings are missing, as they could not be removed intact during the renovation. New windshield.

  • General condition:

Attractive and well-renovated Saab Turbo. This one evokes must-have feelings among many enthusiasts. Thoughtfully updated to an Intercooler that looks factory-made.

Facts about the model

At the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1977, the Saab 99 Turbo was premiered. When the Saab 99 with a turbo was initially launched, the list price was set at 57,900 SEK. This was a lot of money and 11,000 SEK more than the list price for the EMS model.
