Description
The car's odometer reads 32,830 km, but Volvo's odometers at the time rolled over to zero after 100,000 km driven. The assessment is that the car has likely covered 132,830 km, but this cannot be verified.
The engine and gearbox swap makes the car more comfortable, while the more powerful B18 engine allows the driver to keep up with the pace of today's traffic more easily. It was not until 1962 that the Volvo Amazon would receive the more modern B18 engine. At the same time, this car retains the older appearance of the early Amazon model years, with two-tone paint and classic details such as the handsome handle on the trunk lid.
The car has been repainted at some point, but according to the owner, it has essentially not undergone any rust repairs. The original rubber floor mat in the cabin has been replaced with a textile carpet, which contributes both to a cozier feel and improved sound comfort.
The 1959 model year is historically interesting, as that was when the Volvo Amazon and PV544 became the world's first car models to feature three-point seat belts as standard.

Facts about the model
At its launch, three key qualities are highlighted: safety, comfort, and ease of maintenance. The Amazon receives, among other things, new front and rear suspension setups with improved springing, providing better handling and comfort. Maintenance is also simplified compared to the PV444.
Over time, the Volvo Amazon became a true Swedish classic, and in fact the model is only called Amazon in the Nordic countries. This is due to a naming dispute.
The Amazon is technically based on the PV444, but gets four doors, better interior space, and an entirely new design. The designer was the then 26-year-old Jan Wilsgaard. The styling draws inspiration primarily from Italy, but also from the USA and Great Britain. The car's appearance becomes an important part of its success, and as much as 60 percent of production is exported.
Safety becomes another hallmark of the Volvo Amazon. From the start, there are mounting points for two-point seat belts, and in 1959 the three-point seat belt is introduced as standard. Over the years, this innovation has saved well over a million lives.
The Amazon also receives a padded dashboard designed to reduce the risk of injury.
The model's development
1956–1961: The first four-door models have a B16 engine producing 60–85 hp, a three-speed gearbox, and a focus on comfort, space, and safety. The first model years are offered exclusively with two-tone paintwork.
1962–1966: The model range is expanded with the two-door version P130 and the station wagon P220. The B18 engine is introduced, delivering up to 90 hp. A four-speed gearbox and overdrive become optional.
1967–1970: Sportier versions are launched, including the 123GT with 115 hp. The B20 engine is introduced, while the suspension, comfort, and rust protection are improved.
