Description
This particular example had its first owner from 1975 to 1998. The second owner had the car until 2003 when it was taken off the road and sold with 9,100 miles on the clock. It was then stored until the spring of 2022 when it was sold to a VW enthusiast who conducted a major technical overhaul. A new braking system was installed all around, along with new wheels and tires, servicing, a new exhaust system, and new rubber seals, among other things. Since the car was exceptionally well-maintained both inside and outside but had some minor rust spots on the wheel arches, all the fenders were replaced in the winter of 2022, along with the running boards. The car was repainted in the spring of 2023, but the original paint is still present on the upper part and on the rear hatch. The fact that the car has survived so well is due to it always being parked indoors and only being used during its first thirteen years (afterward, it has been an enthusiast's car). The comprehensive rust protection it received when it was new also contributed to its excellent condition.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
Smooth on the road, with a good feel in the chassis and brakes, and a pleasant pull from the engine. No strange noises or rattles. New tires and headlights. Technical inspection and service performed at the VW specialist Fahlkes in Åmål. Recently inspected without any issues and is therefore also exempt from inspection for a certain period.
-
Interior condition
The interior is intact and in good condition, with no worn seats and a fresh appearance under the floor mats. The door panels and instrument panel are in good shape, with no cracks.
-
Exterior condition
Nice paint, good glass and chrome, some oxidation spots on the rear bumper. Very clean underneath, including the spare tire well. New fenders and running boards were installed and painted in the winter of 2022, followed by professional rust protection treatment.
-
General condition
An unusually fine example of the Type 1 model that is genuinely comfortable to drive. With rack-and-pinion steering, the car feels like a modern vehicle (compared to earlier models), and this configuration was only manufactured and sold in 1975. Moreover, only 900 cars were sold in Sweden, and today, around 20% of them remain. It's a sought-after model for those who enjoy fine driving experiences.
OBS! The restoration work on the car in 2022-2023 was done by professionals and with parts and work-hours the price was more than 125.000SEK
