Description

The car was originally delivered by Jikab Bil AB in Borås to the loyal Saab enthusiast Stig Svedberg in Dalstorp. After a year, he realized that a completely new Saab model, the 9-5, was about to be released. Svedberg went back to the dealer and exclaimed, "You sold me an old car, I wanted a new one!" As a result, Svedberg received a brand new 9-5, and the current owner's grandfather purchased the jubilee edition 9000 CSE with just over 10,000 km on the odometer. Since then, in 1998, he drove the car a normal amount and maintained it reasonably well within the service schedule. In 2012, his son inherited the car, and in 2017, the next generation took over. Father and grandson have since driven approximately 40,000 km and regularly serviced the vehicle. Today, the car is once again in the possession of the second generation in the ownership lineage.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine starts easily and sounds true to Saab's character, and the gearbox shifts as it should. The car received its most recent service in 2020 and has covered just under 100 kilometers since then. The documentation indicates that the AC did not have cooling functionality.

  • Interior condition:

The leather upholstery is in good condition but, like many other leather seats, it would benefit from a thorough cleaning, conditioning, and possibly some color restoration. There are no pixel defects on the displays, and the headliner has remained in good shape.

  • Exterior condition:

The car has its original paint in a used condition, which could be enhanced with some paintwork and detailing. There are stone chips on the hood and front bumper, along with areas where the paint has peeled off. The emblems have also lost their color. There is a small indication of rust. The car is currently equipped with winter tires that have likely been used as summer tires. There is no such thing as "all-round" tires, so it would be advisable to replace them with proper summer tires and enjoy driving the car during the summer months.

  • General condition:

The 9000 can be transformed into a presentable youngtimer with relatively simple measures. Painting the bumpers and hood, replacing the emblems, and switching to proper summer tires would greatly enhance its appearance.

Facts about the model

The Saab 9000 was produced in two generations between 1984 and 1998. It was the first Saab to feature a transversely-mounted engine since the Saab 92. The development of the 9000 began as early as 1974 as a replacement for the Saab 99. When the merger between Saab and Volvo fell through, Saab initiated talks with Fiat-owned Lancia, which resulted in the creation of the Saab 9000, Fiat Croma, Lancia Thema, and Alfa Romeo 164 – all sharing the same chassis and many common components.

When the 9000 was first launched, it offered one engine option: a turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0-liter engine with 175 horsepower. The following year, a non-turbo version of the same engine with 130 horsepower was introduced in the 9000i. The Saab 9000 received highly positive reviews in the media and consistently ranked as the second best-selling car in Sweden, just behind Volvo. From the very beginning, the 9000 was a significant model and remained in production until May 6, 1998, when it was succeeded by the Saab 9-5.
