"Stylish, black, and with trim from MB 300."

Description

This Mercedes W111 was sold new in Luleå and has primarily been used in Norrland. According to information, the car has likely never been used in winter road conditions. The car was repainted about 30 years ago, and the front bumper has been re-chromed, not due to rust but because it had a few small dents. The Mercedes appears to have a solid body with nice rear fender edges and intact spare wheel wells. The car has been fitted with a new stainless exhaust system, and the carburetors have been ultrasonically cleaned and renovated. This particular 220-model has been equipped with MB 300 chrome trim, which is in decent condition with a few small dents. It has retained its original radio cover, and seat belts have been installed on all four seats. At the same time, it received an ivory white steering wheel. The instruction and spare parts manual are included with the car, as well as some documentation. The Mercedes has been inspected.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Works well in the engine and driveline, but the engine emits some blue smoke. No knocking or clunking sounds when driving, and the brakes work evenly and well. There's a fuel leakage on the underside of the tank at the outgoing pipe, see picture. According to the owner, this should be fixed by the time of pickup.

  • Interior condition:

The car had seat covers which were removed a year ago. The upholstery is in good condition, but the driver's seat is slightly worn, see picture. Carpets and panels are in good shape. The wood trim is in acceptable condition with a few minor defects. The headliner is nice and intact. Lacks carpeting in the trunk area.

  • Exterior condition:

The car was repainted about 30 years ago, and it has some minor paint touch-ups. The front passenger door has been partially repainted, and the paint has a visible color seam. I didn't notice any rust around the headlights. Overall, the body is in good condition.

  • General condition:

A Mercedes in a very pleasant and appealing condition for its age. However, the engine might need some inspection.

Facts about the model

Daimler-Benz's classic six-cylinder Heckflosse W111 was produced between 1959 and 1971. The body, which was shared with the four-cylinder 190, had a 145 millimeter longer nose to accommodate the straight 2.2-liter six-cylinder engine. Panoramic windows and fins, which had been the latest fashion in the USA, soon made the car look a bit outdated, and therefore its successor, the W108, was introduced as early as 1965. However, the Heckflosse continued to exist, for example as the 230S – which was the entry model in the S-class. The 220S, which was produced between 1960 and 1965, was available either with injection or with double Solex carburetors.
