Citroen D Super ID 20 F Break 2.0 — 1975

A wonderful and practical French station wagon from Norrland, in a classic color combination and with few owners. The car is also well maintained and restored at an authorized workshop. This final model year of the DS family's wagon version is now one of the more exclusive members of the DS family.

"The Break versions of the Citroën DS are becoming increasingly rare, and fine examples like this one are now increasingly sought after. The car has spent its entire life in the Örnsköldsvik area and is in good condition for its age. It is evident that it has received good care over the years. The fact that we, with relatively simple means, managed to start it in connection with the photo session shows, in my opinion, how well looked after the car appears to have been. Furthermore, it has been kept in the same garage beneath the residence in central Örnsköldsvik, in a good, dry and dark environment all these years. The car also has a fascinating history, and it feels entirely fitting that it has made a long journey to France.

Also included are eight tires on wheels as well as a loose right front fender in a non-matching color."

Description

The car was sold new at Ångermanlands Bilförsäljnings AB (ÅBA) in Örnsköldsvik on September 23, 1975. On September 1, 1978, the current owner's family purchased the car, and they were also part-owners of ÅBA. The car was initially owned through a company before finally being bought out privately in 1989. The car has been called "Magda," which is still evident from the text on the back of one of the key rings. It has been in the family since 1978 and has always been kept in the same heated garage when not in use. The car comes with the original owner's manual and two sets of keys.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

At the time of the photo session, the car was started for the first time in over 13 years. After some fresh gasoline, starting fluid, and a "shot" in the carburetor, the engine came to life. The engine then ran unexpectedly smooth and even right away, which should be a testament to how well the car's mechanicals have withstood the period of standstill. Once the engine was running, the gas-hydraulic system began to wake up, and the car rose to its normal ride height without protest. We also tested the gas-hydraulic system at both its highest and lowest settings without any problems. The brakes, which of course are hydraulic, also worked, and the gearbox felt good as well.

High and low beams work, as does the swiveling of the headlights when the wheels are turned. The taillights, brake lights, and reversing lights also work as they should. The turn signals, however, would not work while the charge warning light was lit, but functioned once it went out for a while. The windshield wipers and washer also worked. The car has a fuel-burning heater from Monark which has not been tested. Next to this gasoline heater, the owner has replaced the original washer fluid reservoir with a 5-liter transparent plastic container.

  • Interior condition

Fine interior in original condition, where much revolves around comfort and style. Unfortunately, there is damage in the form of tears in the fabric on the driver's seat. Otherwise, the wear from these 51 years is very limited. Nice door panels, trim panels, headliner, and carpets, including Italian custom-molded protective floor mats. However, the padding on the armrest of the driver's door feels a bit dried out and flaky. A fine Blaupunkt radio that works well with the fitted Diplomat speakers. The floor of the trunk is painted blue, but should probably be the same light gray/beige color as the other metal surfaces in the interior. All in all, a tidy trunk with the practical extra seats.

  • Exterior condition

The car was likely repainted in connection with the restoration, but with a good result. The only tendency to rust noted is around the door lock on the driver's door. No visible dents or scratches on the car.

The roof rack that adorns this model is in good condition.

  • General condition

This car, with its history, few owners, and delightful condition, is a gorgeous French automobile from the final model year – a certain classic. An example to gently bring back to life and have inspected for eternity, and a model to fall in love with.

Owner's comment

Our grandmother was one of the co-owners of ÅBA (a Citroen dealership in Örnsköldsvik), and it was through this connection that she had the opportunity to see the car for the first time. The car was initially a company car and then became a year-round car within the family. After a couple of years, the car became a summer-only car, used among other things for trips to France.

Facts about the model

At the Paris Motor Show in October 1955 at the Grand Palais, the Citroën DS 19 was presented. The model was an immediate success and has long been one of the true legends of automotive history.
Development and updates were made over the years, and in March 1957 production began of a simplified version, the ID 19. It had a conventional brake system, no power steering, simpler interior, etc. In a way, perhaps better and more reliable. The model found its buyers early on here in Sweden as well, and many even made their way up to Norrland. The ID model was a simpler and cheaper version that then largely followed the development of the DS model through various updates during the 1960s. The simpler ID model was eventually replaced by the D Super for the 1970 model year.
At the 1958 Paris Motor Show, the Break was presented as a station wagon version of the model. This practical car then largely followed the development of the Berline versions, with certain exceptions. A very practical detail was the folding seats in the cargo area – two passengers, primarily children, could sit crosswise facing each other. The tailgate was also practically split in two sections. In June 1975 production ceased and the CX model took over. As with many other makes and models, the station wagon and utility versions are by now largely worn out and gone.
