"Perfect for the Duett enthusiast to refine."

Description

The current owner purchased the Duett in 2014 in Skara from the seventh owner at the time. The car had been off the road for about 10 years. He took the Volvo to Rolf Lundblad Motorservice AB in Bandhagen for inspection and service. There, the old tired B20 engine was replaced with a refurbished B18 engine with twin SU carburetors. The car also received a new fuel tank, radiator, and generator. The brakes underwent a thorough inspection and overhaul, with new wheel cylinders, brake pads, and more. The Duett has been serviced there over the years. This is a Duett with improvement potential, and the car could become a very enjoyable rolling restoration project.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine and drivetrain are in good condition, but the car starts to vibrate in the front suspension when reaching speeds over 100 kilometers per hour.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in a worn used condition, with cracked seat upholstery, dry weatherstripping, moisture-damaged panel veneers, and more, as seen in the pictures.

  • Exterior condition:

Repainted sometime in the 1990s. The paint now has imperfections and small damages, and the car would benefit from a new paint job. The car has dented bumpers, both front and rear. The fit of the rear doors is not perfect. There is a stone chip in the windshield.

  • General condition:

A Volvo Duett in somewhat worn daily use condition. A good starting point for a Duett enthusiast who wants something to work on this winter.

Facts about the model

The Volvo PV Duett was produced between 1953 and 1969. The Duett was developed based on the Volvo PV to open up a new market for those who needed a more spacious car. It was launched in 1953, and its name reflects Volvo's idea of the car serving as both a transport vehicle and a passenger car. The car was designed and engineered by an engineer named Erik Skoog. Before the Duett, variants of the PV estate car/package car/ambulance, among others, were produced by independent bodywork manufacturers on special delivery chassis called "PV 445," which Volvo introduced in 1949. The production of the 445 chassis continued alongside Duett production until 1961.

The PV 445 Duett, as it was initially named, received a new look in 1960 in the form of the P 210 Duett, which differed from its predecessor with features like a single-piece windshield instead of a split one. While the Duett can be considered Volvo's first station wagon, it became particularly popular among farmers and craftsmen. Many people may remember the orange Duetts that were used by the Swedish Telecommunications Company for many years. Other major customers included the postal service (yellow wagons with black front fenders and front) and the military, which, in some cases, equipped the wagons with a roof hatch for aerial surveillance. A few wagons were produced with a full rear door.
