"An eighties classic – a youngtimer – with ingredients and loaded terms like homologation, Cosworth, and racing, and that no meddlesome customizer has tampered with. It's how many people want it."

Description

It was delivered in June 1987 by the Mercedes dealer Thitussons Bil AB in Värnamo to a businessman in Gislaved. According to information, he bought the car for his daughter. They drove it for 2 years, covering 4,000 miles, and in 1989, another couple took over the car, Siv and Bernard. They used it during the summers from 1989 to 2012 and mentioned that "winter tires were never fitted to the car." Bernard was from Switzerland, and they often traveled there during the summers. On their way from their accommodation in Switzerland to the ferry in Germany, they often drove on time and tried to beat their personal best. "The car was so incredibly fun to drive," they said. In 2012, it was sold because a demanding house construction project awaited the hardworking and cheerful elderly couple.

Afterward, it had a few owners who mostly left the car standing. In 2019, the current owner purchased it from a reluctant seller, and since 2014, the car has only been driven less than 300 miles. The last documented service was done according to the book in 2010, but after the last unrecorded oil change a couple of years ago, it has only been driven around 60 miles. A car like this deserves more time on the road. A dream car for many back then, and still a dream car for many today. It comes with all inspection records and a neatly filled service book. One could say that this example, with its automatic transmission, is a well-equipped comfort version of the model, including hydropneumatic manually adjustable height control, leather upholstery, and a sunroof.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine likes to reach operating temperature before letting it breathe freely. The character of the engine is refreshingly eager, and the intake sound, both inside and outside, is familiar and beautiful. An automatic transmission might not be the first choice for a hardcore vintage performance car enthusiast, but when it comes to a car of this type and in this condition, one has to accept the specification. And the gearbox shifts smoothly and precisely.

  • Interior condition:

Nice leather in a fine, unblemished condition with carpets, headliner, and instrument panel in the same stylish condition. The coveted Becker radio is illuminated, and the code is available, but there is no sound. Probably an easy fix for a vintage car radio specialist.

  • Exterior condition:

Beautiful original paint in a polished and cleaned condition. There are some small marks and stone chips from careful use. The original wheels are undamaged and in excellent condition with new Hankook tires.

  • General condition:

These cars were and still are attractive. A limited-edition homologation car retains its value. Finding one in a nice, untouched original condition doesn't happen often. Plus, it was sold new in Sweden with fully documented service history.

Facts about the model

Together with the BMW M3, the 190 2.3-16 is one of the most coveted homologation models from the 1980s. Car manufacturers needed to sell and produce at least 5,000 units of the model they intended to use, in this case, for racing in Group A.v
