"Representative and stylish, few owners in the USA and a caring and diligent owner in Sweden after import and renovation."

Description

The car was delivered new in November 1959 by Paul Felton British Cars to a flight captain, Stephen R. Armstrong, in Oakland, Northern California, who remained its sole owner in the USA. The car was shipped to Sweden in crates in 1990. The current owner acquired it shortly thereafter and oversaw the completion of its ongoing restoration.

The car has been used very sparingly, driven occasionally to keep the mechanics in good shape. The speedometer, or at least the odometer, has been non-functional for at least the past 26 years, making the exact mileage unclear. However, according to the owner, it has only been driven short distances.

The car's most recent approved inspection was completed on 2018-06-05. Notably, it won the People's Choice award at British Car Week in Hjo in 2016, competing among more than 300 participating British cars.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine has a manual electric choke, which facilitates quicker cold starts. Without it, the car is hard to start. Once the engine reaches operating temperature, it runs smoothly in conjunction with the automatic transmission, which shifts well and responds quickly to kick-down. Some chassis noise can be heard over road unevenness. The engine and transmission have matching numbers.

  • Interior condition:

Attractive, nice, and fresh leather interior along with good carpets, door panels, and headliner. The speedometer and odometer are out of order, and the gauges need refurbishing as they are mechanically stuck. The other gauges work fine.

  • Exterior condition:

Old fine lacquer from when the car was refurbished and the body was lifted onto the frame in 1992. Beautiful chromed wire rims including spare wheel on older tires with good tread. At the time, Jaguar rightfully made a big deal of the standard fitted disc brakes. Small crack in the windshield farthest to the right.

  • General condition:

A fine representative of the last version of the XK series in good working condition and also equipped with the somewhat rarer automatic transmission.

Facts about the model

The XK150 was produced between 1957 and 1961 as a successor to the XK140 and XK120, where the numbers represented the top speed in miles per hour. Initially, it was only available as a coupe (FHC, Fixed Head Coupe) and as a convertible (DHC, Drop Head Coupe). The slightly more sporty and more spartan roadster, which had a simpler soft top similar to the first XK120, was launched in 1958 as the XK150 OTS (Open Two-Seater). Production ceased in October 1960 with 9,382 cars manufactured; 2,265 roadsters, 4,445 coupes, and 2,672 convertibles.
