"Austin-Healey combined beauty and strength like few others. This example remains in good condition following the restoration carried out by its current owner in the late 1990s."

Description

The Austin-Healey was imported from the USA by its current owner in 1997. At that time, it was in running condition, but it was subsequently restored and professionally repainted in its original color. The interior was reupholstered, while the soft top and tonneau cover were not replaced. The odometer was reset ten years ago. A full set of keys is included. Over the past two years, the owner has not had the opportunity to drive the car.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine starts and runs well, and the gearbox operates properly. The clutch engages high. During the test drive, the cabin fan was not tested.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in good condition. The driver’s seat is equipped with a race-type seat belt, while the passenger side has no seat belt. The soft top appears intact but has not been tested. A spare wheel is included, but no jack.

  • Exterior condition:

The paintwork, completed just over 25 years ago, is still in good condition. The chrome details and wire wheels are also in good shape. The trim around the cockpit shows some scratches, as seen in the close-up photos.

  • General condition:

An attractive Austin-Healey 3000 Mk I that remains in good condition following its 1990s restoration. It is fully drivable, but as it has not been used during the past two years, a service and inspection would be advisable to ensure continued reliability.

Facts about the model

When the London Motor Show opened in 1952, Donald Healey’s new sports car was unveiled under the name Healey Hundred. The original plan was for the car to be produced at the Donald Healey Motor Company’s own factory. However, at the show, Austin’s managing director Leonard Lord took an interest in the car, and an agreement was reached to build it at the Longbridge plant — in far greater numbers than Healey could have managed alone. The car was renamed the Austin-Healey Hundred.
In the autumn of 1956, the four-cylinder model became the Austin-Healey 100–6 when it received a six-cylinder engine and a slightly longer wheelbase. In 1957, production was moved from Longbridge to MG’s factory in Abingdon-on-Thames. The next development came in 1959 with the introduction of the Austin-Healey 3000, featuring a larger six-cylinder engine.
These three models are collectively known as the “Big Healeys,” and production of the last Austin-Healey 3000 was completed in December 1967. Austin-Healey enjoyed considerable success in motorsport, competing in road races such as the Mille Miglia and in rallies including Spa–Sofia–Liège, Tulip, and RAC.
