"An 88-year-old car that wears its years with honor. Several investments have been made in recent years, but unfortunately, it has been somewhat neglected in recent months. A lively little car that is both drivable and relatively easy to maintain."

Description

This car is likely originally sold in Sweden. Copies of older documents dating back to the 1930s are available. In recent years, the car has been renovated with new paint, new chrome, as well as new upholstery and carpets. It was last driven in the summer, but it now needs a thorough check as there was a problem with the fuel supply. The car was featured in the TV series about the Hajby affair. Unfortunately, it has been left outdoors for a while and is well worth bringing indoors for some care and attention. The car comes with various documents and a charming luggage box.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Everything is said to be in good condition and functioning well, but there have been issues with the fuel supply. The car has not been started and test-driven recently. However, everything appears to be in good condition, and the car should be relatively easy to get running again.

  • Interior condition:

The interior of the car is very pleasant and nice. It has a newly sewn upholstery and carpets in good condition. However, the car would benefit from being stored indoors as it has some light dirt and moisture that needs to be addressed.

  • Exterior condition:

The car has a nice and newer paint job with new chrome and a Pegamoid roof. The wheels are in good condition with period-appropriate tires. There is some damage on one of the fenders and at the door hinge.

  • General condition:

This car is in good condition but needs some work to be roadworthy again. Both the manufacturer and the model have historical significance in the automotive industry. It's a classic with collector status from the mid-1930s, when mass-produced cars became available in Europe.

Facts about the model

Opel has a rich history that dates back to 1862 when it was founded by Adam Opel. Initially, the company was successful in selling sewing machines. In 1886, Opel expanded into the bicycle manufacturing business and quickly became the largest bicycle manufacturer in Germany. The company ventured into automobile production in 1898, but their initial attempts were not successful. However, they persevered, and in 1902, they made another attempt, this time in collaboration with the French automaker Darracq, which proved to be more successful.

Opel's growth continued, and by the 1920s, they had become one of the largest vehicle manufacturers in Germany and Europe. In the late 1920s, General Motors (GM) acquired a stake in Opel, eventually becoming the majority shareholder in 1931.

One of Opel's notable models from this era was the Opel P4, featuring a 1.2-liter engine. It was produced from 1935 to 1937, after which it was succeeded by the Opel Kadett. The Standard Special version of the P4 had additional features, including a spare tire mounted on the right front fender and a luggage rack, making it a more upscale model. The top speed of the Opel P4 was 85 km/h, which was also its maximum cruising speed.
