"A nice PV that was renovated in the 70s. The engine runs smoothly with low mileage on the odometer."

Description

This Volvo PV 444 has had only four owners, but according to reports, it has been used by only two people. It has only covered 10,600 kilometers since new and is in good usable condition. The car was renovated in the late 1970s and received new fenders all around during the renovation. At the same time, it underwent a repaint. After the renovation, the car was parked and remained untouched until 2018. After many years of sitting idle, it was brought out and prepared for use. The Volvo received a thorough service, and the seat covers that had been in place for many years were removed. The original fabric, which hadn't seen daylight in a long time, turned out to be in surprisingly good condition. The car passed the Swedish vehicle inspection (bilprovning) in 2022 without any issues. Some documentation accompanies the car, as well as an associated bicycle rack (bicycle not included). And if you need to shave, there is an electrical outlet for a razor, which was a must-have for salespeople of the past, as seen in the picture. This model is often colloquially referred to as the "maiden's breast" due to its distinctive front grille design.

Facts about the model

The Volvo PV 444 is considered the Swedish people's car. The model was introduced in 1944, but production of the PV 444 A began in earnest in 1947. The design was inspired by American cars of the same period, primarily Pontiac, and the engineering was done by Helmer Petterson and Erik Jern. The PV 444 L from 1957 is the last model year of the PV 444. It featured a new B16 engine, a modified rear axle with a reaction rod, electric windshield wipers, a new radiator grille with a large V emblem in the middle, side indicators replaced by small round indicators in the front, new taillights with integrated indicators and brake lights on the fenders, humorously referred to as "maiden breasts." Seat belts were offered as optional equipment. Production totaled 64,087 units of L/LS (Special). In August 1958, the modernized PV 544 was introduced, which continued production until the introduction of the modern 140 series in the mid-1960s. What makes the '57 model special is that it's a mix of old and new details. It featured a proper Volvo engine, the last year with a split front windshield, and the new grille that became standard on the 544, but it retained the old dashboard. The turn indicators in the front were placed inward, and there was a large gold-colored V in the grille and on the rear hatch only for this year. All of these factors make the PV '57 one of the most special PV models, according to many Volvo collectors.
