"This car, with its unique history, is a part of Sweden's rolling cultural heritage. A true dream car for all collectors of Volvo Amazon. When we test drove the car, we had several interested parties on the spot!"

A wonderfully preserved Volvo Amazon in the stunning golden-yellow hue. Owned by the same family for 3 generations in direct descent. This car from Värmland was registered in 1965 with the license plate S85422. When the central vehicle registry was introduced in the mid-1970s, it received its current registration number. The current owner's grandparents bought the car new in 1965. In 1985, their daughter took over the ownership. In 2015, the next generation formally assumed stewardship of this family treasure. Thus, the vehicle registry lists 3 owners. The car has been at the same address in Arvika since it was new and has always been garaged when not in use. It should be clear that this car has been cherished and well cared for. It was rarely taken out in bad weather. Today, the odometer reads 1,970 Swedish miles. The meter has turned over once, meaning the total distance driven since new is only 119 700 kilometers. This is guaranteed by the owning family. Seeing the car, there's no doubt about its authenticity. The fourth generation has no interest in the car, so the family has decided to let it go. Original tools, manual, spare fan belt, and jack are included.

  • Mechanical condition:

Equipped with Volvo's classic B18 engine and four-speed M40 gearbox. Starts easily and has a normal engine sound. Shifts smoothly through the gears. The car will be delivered freshly serviced, with a thoroughly checked ignition system as well as new engine oil and filter. A new rear exhaust system has been installed.

  • Interior condition:

Seat covers have been on the seats since the car was new and were only recently removed, ensuring the seats are in excellent condition without wear. Everything is genuine, and nothing has been altered or mishandled. Please examine the fine condition of the instrument panel, the finish of the gauge face, and the steering wheel.
We found a small hole in the rubber mat, by the accelerator pedal, caused by the sole of the shoe where the driver rested their foot. This is a minor detail mentioned only because the rest of the interior is so incredibly well-preserved. On the rear parcel shelf, there's the classic nodding dog from the 1960s. (See the video)
The luggage compartment is well-maintained with the original rubber mat and lining paper in great condition.

  • Exterior condition:

Original paint from 1965 in very good condition. Four years ago, the family had the door sills repainted. A well-known local painter did the work. At the same time, they addressed screw holes from previous side mirrors. This touch-up is barely noticeable. New Volvo door mirrors in their original box are included. The new owner can decide whether to mount them or opt for fender mirrors instead. There are a few touch-up spots from stone chips on the front. See the photo. There are also some stone chip repairs by the rear mudguards. See the photo. There are a few rust spots on the top of the right front bumper half. See the photo. The car has never been welded. It simply hasn't been necessary. The underside was treated with Tectyl rustproofing early in the 1960s.

  • General condition:

A genuinely well-maintained original car. It's hard to find a better one that's been used over the years and hasn't been restored. A car like this appeals to everyone who loves the Volvo Amazon.

Owner's comment

I vividly remember when the new Amazon pulled into the driveway for the first time in 1965. It was my grandmother's pride and joy. In 2015, my brother and I took over the car. We've used it very sparingly since then. However, we've been diligent in maintaining it, ensuring it's roadworthy, and having it inspected, etc. 2017 was the last year of mandatory inspection for the car. It's now classified as a classic and is exempt from taxes and inspections. When starting it up this summer, we noticed a small hole in the rear muffler. So, we installed a brand new one. We believe everything should be in top condition. When I was young and working at the Texaco station here in Arvika, doing lubrication and rustproofing, I took it to the service bay and gave the car's underside a thorough Tectyl treatment. After that, I was in good standing with grandma and grandpa!

Facts about the model

As usual, Volvo presented its new features for the 1965 model year in August of the previous year. This time, there were an unusually large number of updates, but perhaps the most significant was that all models now came with front disc brakes. In terms of appearance, the Amazon had received a new grille, vented rims, and new hubcaps made of stainless steel. Another addition was the new front seats, which Volvo developed in collaboration with medical experts. The entire new interior was upholstered in perforated vinyl, resulting in an interior that felt very modern yet easy to maintain.
