"A nice example of a characteristic model that has an unusual celebrity in its owner’s history."

Description

It was registered in Sweden in May 1950, probably as new even though the model year is given as 1948. The model was designed towards the end of WWII by the Standard Motor Company which had bought Triumph in 1944 and wanted to challenge Jaguar with something sporty as the companies cooperated mechanically with engines before the war. This example has of course been restored at some point and has spent a long time in the Gothenburg area before the current owner bought the car in 2006.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine can be a bit difficult to start when it's cold outside, but once it's warmed up, everything feels smooth and nice together with the gearbox, which is operated with a steering wheel gear lever. The brakes take evenly and the chassis movements feel good.

  • Interior condition:

Nice interior in light brown leather with fresh carpets. We also find the same leather on the small seat cushions in the boot. The instruments and steering wheel appear to be in original condition with a patina and a small crack in the steering wheel bezel.

  • Exterior condition:

Black, but according to the registry dark green paint in a presentable and fine condition with some marks and memories from normal enthusiastic use. Nice convertible top, and a small pop out (rumble seats) with an additional windshield which significantly increased the comfort on board for the passengers sitting on the small seats in the rear hatch. These seats can also be cleverly and smoothly folded away for more common luggage handling in the space.

  • General condition:

Funny with its unusual rumble seats festively useful e.g. bride and groom transport and a bit sporty in a nice and representative condition. A Triumph with a humble attitude and a proud character.

Facts about the model

Under the period of 1981 to 1991, a TV series was broadcasted about the police detective Jim Bergerac, who was a sober alcoholic and a tough professional who goes his own way. Bergerac's workplace was a sunny holiday island, Jersey, and a tax haven for millionaires, with a touch of England and a little French spice. Where there is money, there is also crime, and Bergerac's investigations take him to beach cafes, mansions located on high cliffs, and secluded bays. Jim Bergerac became known for driving around in a wine-red 1947 Triumph 1800 Roadster. The unusual car became one of the series' most famous hallmarks.
