"This car has been stored in a garage since the early 1990s and has not been driven on the road since then. We were able to perform a simple start-up using an external fuel system, and the car runs (see film). However, the brakes and clutch system require a complete rebuild, and new parts are included to facilitate this process. Despite this, the car is free and rolls well."

Description

This car is being sold on behalf of the owner's estate. The car was registered in Sweden on January 1, 1965, and the first owner had it until 1972, the second owner until 1975, when the current owner bought it and kept it for 47 years until he passed away in late 2022, when his wife inherited it. The car was the owner's dream car, which he planned to renovate as a retirement project. The car has been off the road and housed in his dry storage since 1992. The car is now in decent shape, with a good complete interior with worn carpets, Cooper engine 9FD-SA-H13963, and solid bodywork with older welding in the floors and boot, some surface rust around the panel gaps, and a rough green paint job. Both rear side panels feature lower indentation "pressed lines" that we have never seen before. The only conceivable explanation is that the side panels were replaced at some point.

This will be a fantastic renovation project that will be extremely rewarding because these vintage Coopers are difficult to find and extremely valuable.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

As previously stated, the engine runs with an external fuel supply. The brakes and clutch will need to be totally rebuilt, and some new parts are included (see photos). You will need to do a thorough assessment of the entire car throughout the renovation because it has not been used in over 30 years.

  • Interior condition:

The original seats and interior are complete, with the exception of the extremely worn carpets. We just removed the old, worn seat covers, and everything underneath appears to be in good condition. The interior renovation does not require extensive effort.

  • Exterior condition:

While the car was kept in his garage, he took care of its preservation by wax oiling the panel gaps and underbody. Although there is some surface rust, there are no rust holes and there has been previous welding work done on the floors and boot. The paint job appears to have been done hastily and would require repainting. Additionally, there are signs of body filler work on the front wings. The chromework is completed, but there is some oxidation present, which can be remedied with polishing. The car has older wheels and tires.

  • General condition:

This Austin Cooper is a fantastic project for someone who is interested in owning an original and iconic car, and it also has the potential to be a valuable investment in the future.
