Description

The current owners, two retirees who worked as automotive instructors and at Volvo building PV and Amazon cars, took on the project from 2019-2022 to restore this fine car to its former glory. The starting material was a rare, fine, and rust-free four-door original car that was sold new in Luleå and then driven in the Överkalix area until the mid-seventies when it was put away in favor of a new car. This is not an entirely uncommon practice. Then, the car was taken out in 2003, started up, serviced, and driven to the vehicle inspection service before being used a few years as a summer car until it was put away again in 2008. By then, the car had driven 78,000 km since new. In 2018, the current owners learned about the car through a Volvo club in Luleå and took it to Gothenburg for a makeover. It was started up and test-driven before they decided to invest in a new paint job in the original color code 79-1, pastel blue. As is always the case when preparing a car, it's hard to set limits for one's ambitions, so the engine was completely renovated with new bearings, new camshaft + lifters + gears, and clutch, as well as a renovated carburetor. The gearbox was renovated by experts in Köping, and the brakes received new cylinders, hoses, and pipes. A new tank, new exhaust system, new lights, and rubber seals around windows and doors were installed. New chrome strips were added. The bumpers are original as are the rims, but the tires are new. The interior is new, from VP Autoparts, including a new headliner, new seat upholstery matching the original, and new edge strips. Door sides and rubber mats are original and show that the car has been unusually well-maintained. Add about 400 hours of work, but according to the owners, it has been a pure pleasure. The journey is the joy, not the destination, so now someone else will have the opportunity to enjoy it.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car is technically in almost new condition with a rebuilt engine, gearbox, clutch and brakes. The engine compartment also gives that same feeling of a new car as do the outside. Approved at the vehicle inspection one last time, very recently, and without any remarks.

  • Interior condition:

Complete and clean interior where the dashboard, with padding and all details, is untouched, completely original, as are the door sides and carpets. Seat covers are all new. This likely has remained in such good condition because the car has only been driven 90 000 kilometres since new.

  • Exterior condition:

The body is untouched, on the outside, and all panels/surfaces around are original without any damage or repairs. Wing wheel arches edges, inner inner wings, mudguards are also untouched, only repainted.

  • General condition:

A rare fine example of Jan Wilsgaard's masterpiece, considered by many as one of Volvo's most beautiful cars. Here, moreover, with four doors in the correct model year and with the then new B18 engine and 4-speed box. The car immediately gives a positively professional overall impression.
