"A well-functioning, reliable, and presentable Beetle. An early model, featuring the nice headlights and the stylish white steering wheel."

Description

It was delivered new in August 1959, probably in Norrland, where it must have been promptly delivered as the car, according to records, was manufactured at the beginning of the same month. Sometime in the nineties, the car moved with its owner to a southern suburb of Stockholm. Inspected in 1981 and deregistered in 1993. However, it seems that it has not been used or driven since 1982. By chance, it became a garage find with seized brakes. Towed on a trailer and in recent years repaired with brakes, ignition, service, polishing, and inspection. The latest approved inspection, and thus the last one, was conducted on June 29, 2021.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The engine is most likely the original unit, manufactured in December 1958 according to the information. The engine, gearbox, and brakes feel solid and sturdy. The Volkswagen Typ 1 is fun to drive with a lot of mechanical and direct driving feel. The underbody is in good condition without any patches.

  • Interior condition

Original interior in a nicely untouched condition with attractive patina. Some stains on the passenger seat and, typical for the time and model, minor moisture spots on the headliner. Older accessory rubber mats in well-preserved condition.

  • Exterior condition

The car is painted in a Mercedes original color, Perlgrau DB125, provisionally noted on a label in the spare wheel well. The paint is nice and presentable with some small damages and marks. Overpainted chrome strips. When the car was painted and fixed in 1977, the owner, who was employed at a Volkswagen dealership, took the opportunity to upgrade the taillights and probably also the bumpers. They are painted red on the inside. Nice original hubcaps and correct older Michelin XZ tires with good tread.

  • General condition

Sensible, practical, and stylish. Overall impression is good, with some minor exterior marks and stains that are easily manageable in a user-friendly enthusiast Beetle.
