"Recently transported to our depot, the car underwent a review focusing mainly on the fuel system, ignition, and electrical checks. It started up immediately, showcasing a nicely running engine, although there was noticeable blowing from the exhaust pipe near the manifold, suggesting it may need an alignment. Driving it is an enjoyable experience, and it never fails to draw attention, often prompting passersby to stop and ask, "Is that really a Saab?""

Description

This car is being sold on behalf of the owner's estate, a testament to a family that has cherished many journeys and local classic car events in this Sonett. Its condition today speaks volumes of the care and attention it has received from the owner since its purchase in 2007. Remarkably, the car has had only three real owners since new. The first was a lady from north of Västerås who owned it until 1989, followed by the second owner until 2007, and then the current owner took over. Finding a Swedish-sold Sonett is rare, given that Saab produced only 2,000 units for the 1972 model year, with approximately 80% being exported.

The car underwent a light renovation and repaint over 15 years ago, and its plastic bodywork remains in a great condition, free from any unusual bubbles in the paintwork. The underbody is exceptionally clean, the interior is original and well-maintained, and mechanically, the car is in sound condition.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Front-wheel drive, this car boasts a 65 horsepower V4 engine paired with a four-speed gearbox. Although the car has not been driven much in recent years, a proper service and a small review are recommended. Attention should be given to the exhaust system, and while the clutch bearing may squeak initially, it tends to sound better after a few drives. The pop-up headlights function correctly, adding to its charm, and it rides on nice alloy wheels fitted with good tires, ensuring it's ready for the road with just a bit of care.

  • Interior condition:

Interior remains original, displaying some signs of use. The seats are in generally nice condition, though there are a few marks on the bolster (refer to picture). It features removable/movable lumbar supports for added comfort. The door panels maintain a good condition, and the instrument panel is notably free from cracks, indicating careful use. The floor mats are also in good shape, contributing to the overall well-preserved interior. However, the headliner has begun to sag, indicating some attention may be needed. The boot space has aged gracefully, showing minimal signs of wear

  • Exterior condition:

The bodywork is in very good condition, with doors, boot lid, headlights, and bonnet fitting well, free from any unusual blisters or bubbles in the plastic panels. The paintwork is clean and well-maintained, making it really stand out. While there are a few touch-ups and a small crack around the lower wings and bonnet edges, these are minor and do not detract from the overall appearance. The underbody is neat and tidy, showing no signs of damage.

  • General condition:

With a basic service and an exhaust repair, you'll have a really nice Sonett to enjoy for many years to come. The minor cosmetic flaws can be addressed gradually. Given the rarity of the Sonett, be prepared for plenty of conversations and curiosity at petrol stations—many people have never seen one before, making the car a unique point of interest.
