"Well-maintained intact car that underwent renovation in the 90s. Ready to drive for summer excursions."

Description

The car reportedly arrived in Sweden as moving goods in 1989. According to the same source, the car was converted to left-hand drive during the 1990s. At the same time, it underwent a major renovation, receiving new front fenders and a complete repaint. See a separate picture from the renovation. The car has had 5 users in Sweden. The current owner bought the car as a hobby vehicle, drove about 6000 km with it during the summer to car meets and on a holiday trip. He had long dreamed of owning a Daimler and says the car met his expectations. However, he has limited garage space and is therefore letting the car go to the next enthusiast. Tax-exempt classic car, approved by Swedish vehicle inspection until September 30, 2024.
The current mileage is unknown. The meter has stopped at some point and has remained on the same numbers at the vehicle inspection since 2015. Included with the car are 4 original aluminum wheels that could be nice with polishing and paint, as well as some service parts. A Jaguar workshop manual is also included.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Inline six-cylinder engine of 4.2 liters with Bosch L-Jetronic injection, declared power 205hp. Borg Warner automatic transmission. When we brought out the car, it hadn't been out all winter. Yet, it was very easy to start. It ran very smoothly in engine and transmission. The sunroof has uncertain functionality. We did not test it. According to the owner, the electric motor works, but the hatch sticks a bit and needs an overhaul.

  • Interior condition:

Jaguar's popular leather upholstery, here in a light shade. The leather is a bit worn on the driver's seat, see pictures. There is a small damage on the inner roof near the sunroof. The interior has minor wear and tear and is in good condition for its age. Somewhat soft padding in the driver's seat. The adjustment for the seat's height function needs an overhaul.

  • Exterior condition:

Professionally repainted in the 1990s. The paint has held up well. There are normal stone chips in the front and behind the sills. And a few bubbles in the paint, on the trunk lid and near the sunroof. However, nothing that is particularly notable. See pictures.

  • General condition:

In very good condition for use. It's evident that there have been few and interested owners. A car that has retained the Jaguar aura.

Facts about the model

Daimler Sovereign refers to a line of luxury vehicles produced following the acquisition of the British Daimler Motor Company by Jaguar in 1960. When Jaguar introduced its new model, the XJ6, in 1968, it was available in various trim levels. The more luxurious versions were branded as Sovereign, while the most luxurious versions were sold under the Daimler marque. Beyond the level of equipment, a Daimler can be distinguished from a Jaguar by the design of the radiator grill's upper part and the handle on the trunk lid – a Daimler features ornate edges, whereas a Jaguar has straight edges.

The Daimler Sovereign then evolved alongside the Jaguar XJ6 over the years. Series 2 arrived in 1973, introducing a minor facelift to the front end with a new bumper to comply with US legislation, and some changes to the instrumentation.

The next facelift occurred with Series 3, introduced in 1979, which underwent a significant exterior refresh by the design house Pininfarina. This included several changes to the bodywork, most notably the replacement of chrome bumpers with new rubber-clad bumpers and the complete removal of the vent windows in the doors.

Mechanically, the 4.2-liter engine received Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection, which had been introduced the previous year in the US market to meet stricter emission standards. The Series 3 engine also featured new pistons that allowed for higher compression, increasing power from 172 to 205 hp. The automatic transmissions continued to be Borg Warner 65/66 for the six-cylinder models, but a manual transmission could be chosen at no extra cost. In total, 177,243 units of the XJ Series 3 were produced.
