Included with the car are the official Rally Car Documentation Binder and the competition logbook.

Condition
-
Mechanical condition
Starts easily and runs smoothly in both engine and drivetrain. During test driving on a gravel road and in an industrial area at moderate speed, the steering, clutch, handling, brakes, and other components were found to be fully functional and of racing-grade quality and setup. A couple of acceleration demonstrations were filmed—it looked solid and sounded great.
The car has been inspected on a lift, and everything appears to be in good condition. A small hole was noted in the floor on the right-hand side near the rear axle. -
Interior condition
Stripped interior with roll cage, racing seats, six-point harnesses, and full competition equipment. Controls, steering wheel, instruments, and other fittings are in good condition and purpose-built for racing. All electrical functions and instrumentation appear to be working properly.
-
Exterior condition
Nice, rugged paintwork. Glass, trim, emblems, and lighting components are in good condition. Attractive “football” wheels fitted with good tires. Engine bay and luggage compartment are consistent with what you'd expect from an Appendix K car.
-
General condition
As raw and well-built as one could expect from a classic Saab rally car with competitive ambitions. A historically significant piece of Swedish rally and motoring heritage, built with the clear intent to capture the spirit of the late '60s and early '70s. A true feast for the eyes and ears of any rally enthusiast.

Facts about the model
When SAAB later introduced the new 99 and eventually the 900, many believed the days of the 96 were numbered. But like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, the model received continuous updates and held its ground all the way into the 1980s.
As before, changes both big and small were made steadily over the years. By the time production ceased, you could place an early 92 next to a late-model 96 from the 1980s and not find a single part in common—yet the family resemblance was unmistakable.
By the mid-1960s, the two-stroke engine was beginning to feel dated. For the 1967 model year, SAAB introduced a major upgrade: a new 1.5-liter V4 engine from Ford, delivering a lively 73 horsepower. This sparked a resurgence in sales for both the 96 and its estate sibling, the 95. The model was further modernized with front disc brakes, an alternator, a stronger starter motor, and a higher-capacity battery. The interior also saw improvements, and three-point seatbelts became standard. Over the following years, numerous other upgrades were made both inside and out.
In January 1980, the 96 era came to an end. The very last car rolled off the line on January 8 and was driven by Erik Carlsson himself to the Saab Museum in Trollhättan. The final units were sold during the spring of 1980, with only 967 cars registered in Sweden that year.
In total, 547,221 examples of the Saab 96 were produced.
