"A wonderful-looking and great-sounding bike that always turns heads. It has been well kept over the years and retains virtually all of its original features—luckily never over-restored or excessively modified."

Description

The WLC was the version of Harley-Davidson’s military motorcycle supplied to the Canadian Army, closely related to the WLA used by the U.S. Army but with a few detail differences. This particular example dates from 1945 and likely made its way to Europe during the later stages of World War II. It was registered in Sweden in 1972 and has since had five private owners. The current owner, a bike collector, purchased it last year and has kept it in good, usable condition—riding it every summer.

At some point in its history, the bike was slightly modernized, but it still retains many original features and details.

During the Second World War, Harley-Davidson produced over 90,000 WLA and WLC models, along with a vast supply of spare parts to keep them running under tough conditions. Powered by the rugged 750cc (45 cubic inch) flathead V-twin engine, the model became known as the Liberator to many soldiers who relied on its dependable performance. After the war, thousands of surplus bikes were sold into civilian hands, often modified and repainted—helping kick-start the custom and biker culture of the 1950s. Today, these machines are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starting takes a moment to get used to but the engine fires up easily after a few kicks and delivers a wonderful sound. It rides well, with a good-shifting gearbox, functioning brakes, and a well-balanced feel. The wheels and tires are in good condition, and according to the owner, it has always been a reliable and enjoyable ride.

  • Interior condition:

The leather seat is in good used condition, showing light wear consistent with age but no damage.

  • Exterior condition:

The bike appears to have had an older repaint, likely done many years ago. It still presents well, with some paint chips and scratches but no dents or damage. The fuel tanks are in nice condition. Some of the chrome details around the tanks and speedometer have started to flake. There is an older welding repair visible on the left side of the engine cover, and a more modern lights may have been fitted at some point.

  • General condition:

You’re always going to draw a crowd—especially when you start this bike. It’s perfect as it is, but there’s also room for light cosmetic updates if you desire.
