General condition
A car in a pleasant condition with much of its original feel still intact. While updates have been made and there's some wear and tear, it remains a delightful classic and a time capsule from the late 1940s. Facts about the model
The first Lincoln model was introduced in 1920 and was developed by the renowned motor and automotive legend Henry M. Leland. He had left his position at GM and Cadillac to initially manufacture aircraft engines, but when World War I ended, he returned to making cars. From 1922, Lincoln became part of the Ford conglomerate and became its prestige brand. From 1932 to 1948, they offered a twelve-cylinder engine among other options.
In 1939, the Continental version was developed. In fact, it was based on a personal car of the Zephyr model, built for Edsel Ford. It was named Continental because it had some European styling cues, hence the name. One such attribute was the characteristic rear-mounted external spare wheel. After the outbreak of World War II and subsequently the US's entry into the war, production ceased for the model years 1943-1945. The cars that eventually emerged after the war in 1945 were primarily pre-war versions with altered headlight and grille arrangements. These versions were manufactured for the model years 1946-1948. All cars from 1939 to 1948 had a 4.8L V12 engine.
Then there was a hiatus until the second generation, which was produced for the model years 1956-1957. Different versions on the Continental theme were built until the tenth generation in 2020.
Interestingly, the first generation from 1939 to 1948 is considered a "Full Classic" by the Classic Car Club of America, making it one of the most recent car models to achieve that status.
