Description
After those initial years, the car seems to have had more attentive owners, with service intervals that were both shorter and better than recommended. Perhaps the first owner’s relaxed attitude toward servicing contributed to the engine requiring a rebuild at 150,000 km following diagnosed bore scoring. In any case, the current owner ended up bearing the cost of the issue that worries nearly every owner of Porsche models equipped with this engine family.
Bore scoring occurs when pistons and piston rings wear excessively, causing scratches and damage to the cylinder walls, which feature a Lokasil coating. Today, these engines are commonly rebuilt with steel cylinder liners instead. Another well-known characteristic is the IMS bearing. It is often claimed that the failure risk is low and affects only a small percentage of engines, but that offers little comfort to those unlucky enough to be included in that percentage.
Fortunately, this particular car has had both of these known weaknesses addressed. Rennsport in Gothenburg replaced the clutch and IMS bearing, while the rest of the engine rebuild was carried out by the highly regarded Jaan Tolli Motorsport in Gantofta. A new owner can therefore feel reassured about the engine. The most recent approved inspection was carried out on 2025-10-18.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The engine has been rebuilt following the well-known bore scoring issue and also benefits from an updated IMS bearing and a new clutch. Today, the drivetrain feels and performs exactly as expected, paired with a delightful classic manual gearbox and the familiar, confidence-inspiring feel in both the chassis and brakes.
-
Interior condition
A very pleasant overall impression, with a clean and tidy interior that still retains that distinctive Porsche aroma. The current owner has upgraded the infotainment system with an aftermarket unit compatible with Apple CarPlay. Naturally, the original components have been preserved and are included with the car.
-
Exterior condition
Presentable and attractive exterior with normal wear consistent with the mileage. A few stone-chip cracks are visible on the trunk lid and front bumper. New Michelin Pilot Sport tires, driven only around 200 km, are fitted to fine, undamaged original wheels.
-
General condition
A sensible and, in context, attractively priced example with the model-specific concerns surrounding the engine design already properly addressed.

Facts about the model
The Turbo version was launched in 2006 with 480 horsepower. During the same period, Porsche also introduced the more performance- and track-focused GT3 and GT3 RS variants.
With the arrival of the 997.2 generation, the model underwent a substantial facelift. The most important updates included direct fuel injection (DFI) engines and the introduction of the rapid PDK dual-clutch transmission, replacing the older Tiptronic automatic gearbox. Toward the end of the model’s lifecycle, even more extreme versions were introduced, such as the 620-horsepower GT2 RS and the highly sought-after GT3 RS 4.0.
