"Over time it has become an exclusive enthusiast vehicle."

Description

It was delivered new to Swedish Radio in 1963 where it served as a broadcast van for a long period. The vehicle was likely well cared for by its first owner; a work vehicle of this type is usually completely used up and rarely survives, especially from that time period. In 2017, the vehicle was purchased by a Mercedes enthusiast who carried out a large part of the renovation. When the project stalled, the current owner bought the cabinet to complete the restoration.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

According to information, the "O" in the model designation stands for Otto engine, that is, a gasoline engine. The engine and transmission work well with a little practice in handling.

  • Interior condition:

Clean and fresh. New upholstery materials and a lined cargo space, ready for creative ideas and solutions. One can imagine that the right-hand drive was ordered by Swedish Radio out of consideration for its staff in a Sweden with left-hand traffic during that time.

  • Exterior condition:

A stylish and pleasant two-tone paint job in a nice and representative condition. New tires and correctly black-painted rims.

  • General condition:

A fine representative of a now rare model that has large enthusiast followings on the continent and also globally.

Facts about the model

The Mercedes L 319 was produced between 1955 and 1967 and is one of the predecessors to today's modern transport vans from the brand. The L 319 had both diesel and gasoline engines and was offered in several different body variants such as a van, bus, or with a flatbed. The vehicle was an important response to competitors such as Volkswagen and Opel in the 1950s and 1960s when a light and flexible transport platform was necessary for good sales among small businesses and craftsmen. Today, the model is a sought-after classic, especially among vintage camper and small bus enthusiasts.
