"Constructed by Ronny Ericsson, known as “The General,” this car is well known within racing circles and the Svenskt Sportvagn Club."

Description

You think you’ve seen just about every kind of car in this job… then the RE2000 shows up.

A true one-off, now offered by the daughter of its creator, Ronny Ericsson — a man who built cars exactly the way he wanted them. Speaking with the family, it’s clear he lived and breathed motorsport. He ran his own workshop, tuned race cars, and even competed in Formula 3 back in the day. He also spent time working alongside Saab during his career.

The RE2000 is built on a Volvo P1900 chassis and is believed to wear a heavily reworked Ockelbo body, reshaped into Ronny’s own design — complete with striking gullwing doors. The car was registered in its current form in 1986, likely when the major rebuild took place, although the base dates back to 1956. Under the bonnet sits a B20 engine, which appears to have been tuned.

How the P1900 chassis was originally sourced remains unclear — possibly one of the spare units that found its way out of Volvo at the time.

Ronny, known in racing circles as “The General” (even the family isn’t sure why), was a familiar face at events. He attended countless races, often invited into the pits with the car, and was very active within the Svenskt Sportvagn Club. Period stickers still on the car show years of meets, with the latest dating to 2003. His daughter recalls visits to Sturup Raceway, where the car even ran on track during public demonstrations.

A proper one-off. Built by a proper character.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The car has been in storage for over 15 years. Under the bonnet everything appears complete, fitted with a B20 engine with twin carburetors, which looks to be tuned. The engine has been started using an external fuel source and runs, but nothing else has been tested and the car has not been driven. It will require a full inspection and recommissioning before returning to the road. Last inspected in 2009.

  • Interior condition

Interior is worn, damaged, and clearly home-built, but everything appears to be in place. It features two bucket seats along with a wide array of gauges and instruments across the dashboard. A full renovation will be required.

  • Exterior condition

Body is fiberglass and complete, presenting in fair condition. There are cracks and marks in several areas, mainly around the roof and front nose section. The gullwing doors function well and hold themselves up properly. Paintwork is faded with various scratches and marks throughout. Underbody looks generally solid around the framework, although it has not been fully inspected. Overall, the car will require a full renovation before returning to the road.

  • General condition

You are 100% guaranteed to be the only owner of an RE2000 in the world. A perfect fit for a museum seeking something truly unique — or an enthusiast with the vision to bring it back to life.
