Description

Very nice Volvo 142 De Luxe. The previous owner purchased the car in 2020 and renovated it during the pandemic. Anything that was not deemed satisfactory was replaced with new parts or renovated. The body has been renovated and the paint is of good professional standard.

The current owner purchased the car in 2022. Due to a new residence without garage facilities, he is letting the car go. The car was sold in Sweden and registered in November 1972. It has had 10 registered owners since new. Since 2001, it has had 2 users. The odometer reads 330 000 km, but according to the previous owner, the correct mileage is 270 000 km due to a faulty odometer that was replaced. The car passed the Swedish vehicle inspection in 2022 and is now exempt from further inspections. The original jack, spare tire, and tools are included.

The original steering wheel and 4 brand new factory accessory wheels of the ATS model are also included.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Nice to drive with distinct gear positions. Slightly heavy steering, which can easily be remedied by reattaching the included original steering wheel.

The engine is a standard Volvo B20 equipped with a Stromberg single carburetor and a stated output of 82 horsepower. The gearbox is a 4-speed model M40. The 2-circuit power-assisted brake system has disc brakes all around. The brakes have been repaired with renovated brake calipers, new hoses, new rear brake discs, and new brake pads all around. The wheels were also renovated and fitted with new tires. New universal joints and a new battery have also been installed. A new exhaust system, among other things, has also been fitted. We cannot go through everything that has been done, but we can confirm that it is in good and normally functioning condition. We do not have any information on engine repairs, but it runs smoothly and sounds like a Volvo B20 engine should.

  • Interior condition:

Nice interior. New door panels have been installed both in the front and back. The padding of the front seats has been replaced, which contributes to the riding comfort. A seam on the back of the passenger seat has been repaired, as shown in the picture. Both the fabric and rubber mats are new. The headliner is in good condition. The instrument panel is in good condition, with only a minor repair, as shown in the picture. Equipped with an additional Volvo tachometer. Details that are often overlooked have been replaced, such as new knobs and controls on the instrument panel and center console. Equipped with a period-correct Blaupunkt car radio. The trunk is in excellent condition with new side paneling.

  • Exterior condition:

The paint job is approximately 2 years old and looks great. New emblems have been installed, and the bright moldings have been straightened and polished, which gives a very good impression. There is a small dent in the bright molding around the rear window, as shown in the picture. The correct details have been used, such as period-correct windshield wipers, the correct tire dimensions, the correct hubcaps, and original splash guards. Please refer to the pictures.

  • General condition:

It is in an exceptional condition.

Owner's comment

I grew up with the Volvo 140 series. It was the 1973 model year that was the most beautiful. I bought the car as a revival in 2022. It runs beautifully, and it is enjoyable nostalgia to drive it. People wave and look happy when you arrive. I installed a smaller sports steering wheel and bought new ATS Volvo wheels from VP Autoparts for the summer of 2023. Due to a change in housing, I am letting the car go. A car as nice as this one should not be parked on the street at night.

Facts about the model

In 1973, the Volvo 140 series was introduced with larger taillights, a new grille, new bumpers, and a new interior, including a more modern instrument panel. At the same time, several beautiful 1970s colors were introduced, such as yellow, green, mint green, and orange. The model had only this appearance for a year, as it was replaced in 1974 by the thick bumpers, and the following year, the 240 series was introduced. The 1973 model year is therefore considered by many to be the finest/most beautiful 140 model. This makes it a really nice collector's car that has its own expression for driving pleasure. Durable, safe, and comfortable, even on long journeys.
