Facts about the model

The Type 170V, introduced in February 1936 at the Berlin Motor Show, replaced the previous six-cylinder W15 170 as Mercedes' volume model. It had an advanced central frame chassis built with oval tubes and individual wheel suspensions all around. In the front suspension, transverse leaf springs served both as spring elements and as arms. At the back was a swing axle. The heart of this expensive chassis was, as usual when it came to Mercedes-Benz volume models, a tired side-valve engine. But the new four had at least better torque than the six it replaced. Mercedes offered, as always for its interwar models, a variety of bodies: two and four-door sedans, two and four-seat cabriolets, tourers, roadsters, etc.
