"A stylish and powerful car for a pleasant journeys along country roads and esplanades."

Description

According to the report, it was sold new in the USA in February 1992. It was imported to Sweden in 2012 but was left standing and driven less than 100 miles until May 2017, when the current owner bought the car. He has been a Jaguar enthusiast since his youth and the car has been camped with more "cats" in the garage. It has been used during the bright half of the year and has been maintained and updated.

In 2017, the headlights were replaced with new twinlights with a new conversion kit. A new Mohair hood was also fitted, along with new emblems, all from Joe's Garage.

In 2019, all fan belts were replaced at Astonhill in Lidingö. In

In 2020, new tires were purchased from IDH Wheels. That year, comprehensive work was also done on the brakes, with the rear ok being renovated, new mounting kits, new front ok, blocks front and rear, adjustment of the handbrake. In addition, the rear axle was dismantled and the shock absorbers were inspected. All work done by Kanrells Bilservice in Skå.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starts easily and runs smoothly. A lot has been updated in recent years, which should provide a relatively worry-free ownership. The undercarriage has not been checked on a lift. From what could be seen, as well as pictures of the undercarriage taken by the owner, it appears to be in good condition.

  • Interior condition:

Nice decor with good chairs, door panels, carpets and instruments in original condition. Wooden details as well but with some crack. There is milder wear but overall in a good usable condition.

  • Exterior condition:

The paintwork appears to be in original condition, with stone chips, scratches and a small area where a review is in order, including the right wheel arch at the bottom in the rear. A reconditioning of the exterior will lift the impression. Glass and chrome in good working condition. Rims in good condition with newer tires. Engine and luggage compartment in good condition. The fog lights (Lucas) are unfortunately damaged and need to be replaced.

  • General condition:

This is a quick and impressive carriage in good working condition, which can be driven as it is or with a little care and attention you can get a real nice classic.

Facts about the model

The successor to the E-Type, which was introduced in 1975, initially struggled to take over its predecessor's iconic status. Partially unfairly, because the new XJ-S was a different type of car. More of a Grand Touring car than a pure sports car. Certainly a flirt with the American market. At the same time, the design and lines made it look like a fast "road locomotive" even when standing still. Opinions were divided, but slowly but surely it became popular, as a fast and comfortable Grand Routier. The V12 engine, which was the only engine offered initially, was a powerful piece, albeit thirsty. Buyers could choose between manual (until 1979) or automatic transmission. Manual transmission made a comeback when Jaguar also launched the model with a 3.6L six-cylinder engine as a complement to the large engine. Initially, the XJ-S was only intended as a coupe, mainly because safety aspects in the US and Europe meant that the joy and possibility of buying and driving a new open car were phased out. As always, it is the market that ultimately decides, and after a while, single open XJ-S cars were also built through private initiatives. So in the mid-1980s, a Targa variant similar to the BMW Bauer and Triumph Stag was introduced. But buyers wanted even more wind in their hair. Finally, from the 1988 model year, it was possible to get the XJ-S as a proper convertible. In 1991, a facelift was introduced, including a modified rear end that was more in line with the design of other Jaguar models. Then and in the following years, the engines were upgraded, to 4.0L for the six-cylinder and 6.0L for the V12. In 1995, the latter engine and the XJ.S, now without a hyphen, were discontinued. The following year, the six-cylinder version also disappeared. Now Jaguar loaded up with the successor XK8. So, if the XJ-S had a slow start, it eventually hung in there for over 20 years and was produced in 115,413 examples.
