"A really fun hobby car that is also easy to own, regular Volvo stuff that is also affordable."

Description

With the iconic car, Austin Healey, in mind, 35 building kits and 4 complete cars were manufactured in the 1980s. This specimen of Hult Healey was built by a knowledgeable person who also built a couple of AC Cobras. The current owner has owned the car for 15 years. It is equipped with Volvo's B20 engine, which has been bored to B21 in a renovated and moderately tuned condition. The cylinder head has been slightly modified and equipped with a Weber two-port carburetor. The engine also has a mild performance camshaft, it is unclear which designation the camshaft has, and extractor headers. The car is also equipped with Volvo's original GT instruments. The owner estimates the output to be around 120-130 hp. The M40 model gearbox has also been renovated. The Hult Healey has been well maintained over the years. Recently, among other things, the brakes have been repaired and it has new tires, clutch cable, and battery. The car was repainted about 10 years ago and received a new color. A new convertible top with frame is included but it is not mounted. The wipers and windshield washer are defective. The car was last serviced in the fall of 2022 and starts easily and runs well.

Facts about the model

Hult Healey is a Swedish kit car. It all started when Mats Svanberg from Hult saw an Austin-Healey and fell in love with it. In the 1970s he bought one and when it was to be renovated in 1981 he wanted to make a replica of the racing version without destroying his original car so he decided to make a copy. He called in Lennart Waerme to help. The chassis was based on the original but it got its engine, gearbox and suspension from a 1972 Volvo 142. To fit the Volvo parts the car was made 14 cm wider than the original. Hult Healey, as it became known, was registered in late summer 1984. They also started to manufacture kit cars based on their design. Until 1990, 35 kits and four finished cars had been sold. In 1987 an updated version with more race design was constructed using a Volvo B23 engine that gave 250 hp. The body weighed only 50 kg. Only three examples of the second generation Hult Healy were made.
