This is a nice Austin "Big Healey" in a less common version as a 2-seater roadster. It is also equipped with the sought-after hardtop. It was imported to Sweden from England in 2013. The importer was an Englishman named Mr. Biggs, who bought it from the first owner in 1964. He must have been really fond of his car because he kept it until his passing in 2021. During the period from 2005-2007, Mr. Biggs invested in engine renovation, body renovation, and gearbox inspection. The top was also converted with valves that can withstand unleaded gasoline. The work was carried out in England, and receipts for the work are included. During its time in Sweden, between 2013 and 2023, the car has been driven about 300 miles. The current owner was acquainted with Mr. Biggs and bought the car from the estate. He owns several English enthusiast vehicles and is therefore letting the Healey go. The speedometer and odometer are graded in English miles. The current mileage is 24817 miles, equivalent to 3994 Swedish miles. The car was inspected by the Swedish vehicle inspection in 2016 and is now exempt from inspections as a veteran car. The car is in good working order and can be used in this condition with advantage.

  • Mechanical condition:

Six-cylinder engine of 2.9L with twin SU carburetors. Rated power is 126hp. Four-speed manual transmission with electric overdrive. Equipped with disc brakes in the front. Easy to start. Sounds normal and feels like an English sports car on the road. Older English sports cars all have their individual character traits and require their special driving position behind the wheel. This car had temperament and good flow on the road.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in good condition with signs of use. The driver's side floor mat is a bit worn. The door panels appear to be original, with some marks and minor damage. The seats are in good condition. The original steering wheel has been replaced with a Moto-Lita sports wheel. The headliner and instrument panel are in good condition. It is also equipped with a clock and modern temperature gauge. It also has a period-correct functioning radio. The Stereo 8 player was not tested as no cassettes were available. The defroster vents are not connected.

  • Exterior condition:

The car seems to have been white/blue originally. The red/white repainting was done many years ago. It is more of the character of enthusiasm than professional. On closer inspection there are scratches, some dent and even blisters in the paint. See pictures.

Side windows are included for mounting when driving in cool weather. A small bracket is missing on one window frame. See pictures.

  • General condition:

Well functioning used condition. Cosmetic remarks.

Owner's comment

The car was previosly owned by an acquaintance from tmy hometown. He was wonderfully English conservative, of the old school. He was very meticulous with the technical aspects. It was important for him that the car worked without any problems. However, to spend on a new professional paint job was foreign to him. Upon his passing, I got the opportunity to take over the car. It has only had two owners since new. I think it's extra nice because it's a roadster. Even the hardtop is special. Hopefully it will bring joy to the next owner, in the same way it was a joy for Mr Biggs for 57 years.

Facts about the model

The Austin Healey 3000, called "Big Healey", was built between 1959 and 1967. The car body was made by Jensen Motors and the car was assembled in the BMC/MG factory, parallel to the company's MG models. More than 90% of the production went for export to the USA, and the car was very successful in racing and rallies at the time. Today, the car model is a popular racing car for enthusiasts in historic rallies.
