"A restoration project for someone who has always dreamed of owning a British TVR with a V8 engine and manual gearbox, but would rather restore one themselves than buy a finished car. Parts are missing, and a significant amount of work will be required to make the car roadworthy and ready for registration. A true challenge."

Description

The car was sold new in Sweden in 1988 through the importer Millies Garage AB in Bandhagen. At the time of import, on 19 February 1988, the vehicle was stated to be factory new. Copies have been obtained from the National Archives, allowing the ownership history to be followed over the years.

History:
The car was registered in the Swedish vehicle register on 24 March 1988. The first owner after the importer lived in Lund. He bought the car on 18 July 1988 and kept it until 1992, when it passed to Wendels Bil & Motor in Arlöv. From there, it went on to another car dealer, this time in Malmö. On 20 January 1993, the car was acquired by a gentleman living in Lomma. On 31 March 1995, it changed hands again, this time to a man in Malmö who had just turned 24, and so on. In this way, the car’s history can be traced, for those interested.

The current owner acquired the car in 2023 in the condition in which it stands today. He realises that he will never have the time to restore it and has therefore chosen to sell the project.

As can be seen, the car is missing a number of components, and the rest requires restoration. There are no additional parts beyond what is shown in the photos. In short: what you see is what you get. Please study the photos carefully.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Equipped with a Rover V8 engine and a five-speed manual gearbox. The mechanical condition is unknown. No attempt has been made by the current owner to start the engine. The bonnet is missing, as are the battery, radiator, and various other components. The electrical system appears untidy, and it is unknown whether any parts of it are missing. The headlights are loose. The condition of the braking system is also unknown.

  • Interior condition

A considerable number of items are missing here: door cards, door handles, window winders, side windows, and more. The instruments and dashboard have surface rust. The wiring loom is hanging loose. The seats have simply been placed loose in the car. Please study the photos carefully for further details.

  • Exterior condition

The fibreglass body appears to be in reasonable condition; the only major damage we have noted is a crack in the left front wing. The windscreen is cracked, and the windscreen wipers are missing. The front spoiler and side/sill spoilers are missing. Hinges for both the bonnet and boot lid are missing. There is some surface rust on the underside. The wheels are in good condition with older tyres. Please study the photos carefully for further details.

  • General condition

A stalled project. Well suited to someone who enjoys the challenge of carrying out a restoration themselves.

Facts about the model

Trevor Wilkinson founded his company in 1947, and the story of TVR has since been a turbulent one, much like that of many British sports car manufacturers operating on the fringes of the equally turbulent British motor industry. Yet somehow, the marque has survived and repeatedly risen from the ashes like a phoenix.

In 1980, TVR introduced the new Tasmin 280i, a sharply styled wedge-shaped sports car powered by a 2.8-litre V6 engine. In 1983, a 3.5-litre Rover V8 was installed under the bonnet, giving rise to the Tasmin 350i. The following year, the Tasmin name was dropped, and the cars became known simply as the 280i and 350i. Enthusiasts, however, commonly referred to them as the “Wedge” due to their distinctive angular shape.

Production of the Wedge continued until 1991. The model was available as a two-seat convertible, as well as in two-seat and 2+2 coupé configurations. Engine options included four-, six-, and eight-cylinder units.

The TVR 350i was produced in a total of 949 examples during the 1984–1989 model years.
