Description

This car was purchased new by the current owner in April 1965. The car has been used extensively, and the odometer has rolled over three times, meaning it has traveled approximately 350,000 kilometers. The body was fully restored and repainted in 2010. During this restoration, the valves were ground, and the channels cleaned. A durable engine that runs quietly and smoothly. The most recent inspection was done in 2017. The owner has cared for the car lovingly, and in recent years it has been driven very little. It has been continuously maintained with oil changes and other service measures. Please feel free to read the owner family’s little story in the owner’s comment. The car is delivered with very extensive documentation.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine, gearbox, and brakes work very well. The only thing that didn’t function during our inspection was the temperature gauge. Older tires from 2010 with good tread depth. During the restoration, the underside of the car was ground clean and treated against rust. Two keys for the ignition lock, plus separate keys for the doors, trunk, and fuel cap.

  • Interior condition:

Nice upholstery, although there are some dirt stains in places. There is an approximately three-centimeter-long tear in the seam of the driver’s seat, which should be easy to fix. The original floor mat is in poorer condition (see pictures). Original insert mats are included. Original Opel blankets come with the car. Nice door panels and headliner.

  • Exterior condition:

Externally, the car is in good condition. The paintwork has held up well since 2010 and has a nice gloss. The bumpers, trim, and glass show normal wear for everyday use. The body is straight and nice, as far as we can see.

  • General condition:

A lovely overall impression of this charming little car. The cheerful spirit of the sixties shines through in every detail, and the car is a lot of fun to drive, albeit somewhat basic.

Owner's comment

The car has been owned by us since we bought it new from AB Carman in Lindesberg in April 1965 for about 9,500 SEK. The car took us up to Vindeln near Umeå, where we worked during 1965–1969. During that time, our two children were born at the hospital in Umeå, and the Kadett carried us the six miles there at full speed and then happily back again. There have been many trips between Vindeln and Örebro—a 750 km one-way journey—as well as to the cabin in Tärnaby, about 900 km, and numerous holidays in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. On holiday trips, the trunk was packed with strollers, picnic baskets, camping stoves, food, and more. On the roof during summer, tents, camp beds, and folding chairs were carried, and in winter, ski gear with various types of skis. Our children also practiced driving in the same car before they got their own driver’s licenses. The car covered 310,000 kilometers before it was finally put away for a few years due to rust damage—“Easily rusting quarter kilo Gevalia.” After those years, it was taken out of barn storage and, with the help of Åke Johansson, the rust was repaired, it was restored, and repainted in the original color. Front fenders and the front floor have been replaced. With help from Kalle’s Auto Upholstery, the interior was also refurbished, followed by an inspection for MHRF insurance. Today, the car is taken out in good weather and aired during the summer at various events organized by NFH. Korv rally, Historic Motor Day, Sannahed Day, Nora rally, and more are part of the enjoyable driving experiences.

Facts about the model

The Opel Kadett, launched in 1965, was a compact car produced by the German manufacturer Opel. The first generation of the Kadett, known as the Kadett B, was introduced as the successor to the original Kadett A.
The Kadett B featured a modern and sleek design with straight lines and a distinctive front grille. The car was available as a two- and four-door sedan, as well as a station wagon. It was offered with a range of engine options, making it a popular choice among both families and young drivers.
During its production run, the Kadett B contributed to Opel’s success in the European market and became known for its reliability and fuel efficiency. The car was also affordable, making it an attractive option in the growing compact car segment.
The Kadett B continued production until 1973, when it was replaced by the Kadett C. Over 2.6 million units of the Kadett B were sold, cementing its place as one of the most successful models in Opel’s history.
