Description

This 445, originally with a delivery chassis from Volvo and a Grip body, was first registered in 1954. Its early history is currently unknown. It was re-registered in August 1974. Reportedly, it was then converted into a mild custom and used by car painter Ivve Hallberg, who was known for his spectacular paint jobs on Hot Rods and show cars in the 70s and 80s. He reportedly used it as a company vehicle. The most recent owner acquired the car in January 1989 and, along with a neighbor and friend who was a mechanic, continued to build on the vehicle, giving it the blue paint and B20 engine it has today. It is equipped with a tow hitch.

Inspected, registered, and ready to drive.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car has been stationary for a while, but the B20 engine started as it should, although it ran a bit rough until it warmed up. All functions seemed to work well during a short drive. The brakes may need an inspection/bleeding. This also applies to all other technical aspects; an inspection and service are recommended. It has not been checked on a lift, but everything visible underneath looked good. The car appears to be well-built and reliable.

  • Interior condition:

The interior has been rebuilt with newer, comfortable leather seats, a wooden dashboard, and newer instruments in a classic style. It also features a newer wooden steering wheel. The door panels, headliner, and carpet have been redone in a simpler style. Controls and electrical systems work, including the heater. It has an older, functional stereo.

  • Exterior condition:

The paint is good and glossy but shows some signs of use. The glass, chrome, and other details are in similar condition. The wooden bed with railings is well-built and charming, showing some wear and tear. The wheels are in good condition with good tires, though their age is unknown. A loose grill is included, which has some dents and wear.

  • General condition:

This vehicle fits both as a utility vehicle and at enthusiast meets. Whether you have a passion for Volvo, the countryside style, or both, this is a bold enthusiast car and classic. Drive it as it is or refine it even further.

Facts about the model

Volvo’s estate cars are a well-known concept that began with the Volvo Duett in 1953. Engineer Erik Skoog designed and constructed a combined professional and leisure vehicle based on the PV 444, called the PV 445. Since 1949, Volvo had already been delivering chassis for various body builds, primarily for professional use. The “civilian” Duett largely followed the development of the PV 444/544 model. From the 1961 model year, the model was designated P 210 and stood on its own, eventually outliving the PV 544. The newer Amazon was also introduced in an estate version for the 1963 model year, but there was still a demand for the more spacious and taller Duett. It was particularly known as a utility vehicle for the police, Televerket (the Swedish telecommunications agency), and the postal service. The Duett and Amazon were manufactured in parallel until 1969. The last Duett rolled off the assembly line on February 11, 1969. When the 1970s arrived, the Amazon was also retired.

Even back then, the Duett, which had a frame, was popular for conversions. Convertible versions were built, and eventually both Epa tractors and Hot Rods.
