Description
In 2019, the current owner purchased the car with the intention of restoring it. It was then moved to another garage, this time in the Arvika area, where it remained until the spring of 2026. At that point, the owner realized that he was unlikely to live to be 100 years old. There simply would not be enough time for all his project cars, and he has therefore decided to consign this Mercedes to Bilweb Auctions for sale.
According to the Swedish Transport Agency (Transportstyrelsen), the car has had three owners since new. We cannot confirm whether this is entirely accurate, as there was likely at least one additional owner between 1955 and 1971.
The spare wheel and jack are included. The owner's manual is missing.
Also included are four additional wheels with hubcaps, along with various other parts as shown in the photographs.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
Equipped with an inline six-cylinder engine. The car starts and has been driven a short distance around the property. The owner has replaced the ignition leads and spark plugs and has brought the engine back to life. However, it runs somewhat unevenly, misfires, and smells of stale fuel. A more extensive service is required to improve its performance, including draining and cleaning the fuel system, rebuilding the carburetor, inspecting the ignition system, and related work.
The brakes also require attention. They function sufficiently for moving the car around the property, but not for use on public roads. Expect a complete brake system overhaul to be necessary. -
Interior condition
The headliner is complete and presentable, with only some minor discoloration. The front seats are heavily worn, and an older set of seat covers has been fitted. The upper section of the rear seat backrest has been damaged by prolonged sun exposure.
The dashboard wood trim is in good condition. The wooden window frames for the doors are included separately and require restoration. The front rubber floor mat is original but has developed dry cracks. The rear rubber floor mat is missing. The floor of the luggage compartment has surface rust. -
Exterior condition
The body appears to be fundamentally very solid. It has had an older repaint, which has developed the now-classic paint blistering caused by spray filler. During the 1980s and 1990s, many body shops used spray filler to perfect the preparation work and create an exceptionally smooth surface before painting. This method was especially common on dark-colored cars, which can be difficult to finish perfectly smooth.
With the benefit of hindsight, it has become clear that spray filler can absorb moisture over time and expand, resulting in paint blisters. We believe that the roof and trunk lid still retain their original paint, as they have not been affected by this issue.
There are also some areas of paint crazing and minor surface rust on the exterior, though these are relatively limited in extent. The chrome and brightwork show rust spotting and oxidation. Please refer to the photographs.
Underneath, the car appears to be remarkably intact. There is surface rust, but we have not found any perforation rust or rust holes. We believe the tires date from the 1980s; they show signs of dry cracking but still hold air. -
General condition
A good project car that allows the buyer to choose the level of restoration. It can be fully restored from the outset, with all that entails, or the focus can be placed on the mechanical aspects first, with the car being gradually improved and restored over time.
