Description

Over the years, Mercedes has produced many beautiful coupés — and the W111 series, built from 1960 to 1971, is no exception. As early as 1961, a coupé version was introduced, designed by Paul Bracq. Unlike the sedan models, it featured lowered rear fenders instead of tailfins. The model line evolved through the 250 SE and 280 SE versions.

As if that weren’t enough, an even more luxurious variant was introduced — the W112 — produced from 1961 to 1967, with the two-door coupé and cabriolet versions built between 1962 and 1967. The W112 featured the 300 SE engine with an aluminum block, producing 170 hp in 1967. It also came standard with air suspension, automatic transmission, and disc brakes. The interior was more lavishly appointed, and the bodywork boasted more chrome than the W111.

In total, only 3,127 two-door versions of the W112 were produced.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Oil leakage of unknown origin, possibly from the power steering system. Runs well during a short test drive on the driveway. The ride height may need adjustment — air suspension.

  • Interior condition:

Nicely patinated leather interior, with cracked paint on the dashboard. The radio and radio cover are missing.

  • Exterior condition:

Good condition with some paint imperfections — see photos. Otherwise, in very solid, usable condition. The chrome is in good, though not perfect, shape. A few minor dents are present.
The body was likely repainted many years ago.

  • General condition:

A charming car in very solid, usable condition. As it has been part of a collection for many years, a thorough inspection and service is recommended before putting it back on the road. The last approved inspection was in 1996.
