"Absolutely beautiful exterior condition, equally fine underneath and under the carpets. Has never been rusty or damaged."

Description

This car has only had two owners since it left the sales hall in Örebro 69 years ago. Additionally, the body remains untouched with a wonderful patina, and the seats and door panels have had protective covers since the car was new. The current owner is a devoted Volkswagen enthusiast. In 1981, the owner learned that this '54 model was for sale. At that time, it had driven 96 000 kilometers, and today the odometer has rolled over once, totaling 151 000 kilometers. The owner had a meticulous renovation of the original 1192cc engine carried out, and it remains in place. The engine runs very well, although the gearbox emits some transmission noise under load, as old Volkswagens tend to do. When it comes to the body and interior, the owner has been foresighted enough to leave them untouched.

The body has a wonderful genuine patina. The paint color is L-227 Stratosilber, one of the first metallic paints offered by Volkswagen. Early metallic paints aged relatively quickly, and this '54 model has lost some of its former luster but has gained an unbeatable patina that only 69 years of careful use can create. The body and undercarriage have never been welded or repaired for rust. The car looks just as impressive underneath and under the carpets. One reason for this is that Sören has always kept the car in a garage and has treated his Beetle as a hobby car since purchasing it over 40 years ago. Another reason is that the car's first owner took very good care of it. For instance, it is said that he would choose his bicycle over the car if it was raining when he needed to go to the summer cottage. Early '54 models like this one have many details from previous models that later disappeared. One characteristic is a single exhaust pipe instead of the dual exhausts that came afterward. Extensive documentation accompanies the car. For example, the original service booklet is included, indicating that the first oil change was done when the car hadn't even reached 50 kilometers. This is an extraordinary unrestored car with an unbeatable patina, a treasure for the connoisseur. Moreover, the buyer will also have the opportunity to celebrate the car's 70th anniversary next year.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

It has been started after more than 10 years of inactivity. The engine was refurbished over 20 years ago and has since traveled approximately 20 000 km. The only issue is a transmission noise from the gearbox under load, but it does not affect functionality. The car is delivered with a new inspection and ready to drive, but a buyer is recommended to service the vehicle before starting to use it.

  • Interior condition:

Almost like new on the inside, everything is untouched. Seats and door panels have had existing covers since new. The gray wool fabric underneath is original and in excellent condition. The headliner is also unusually nice, but with signs of aging and the usual moisture stains. The same goes for the carpets. Underneath the spare tire, the car looks brand new.

  • Exterior condition:

Intact and fine body. Original paint that has faded due to sun exposure. Front stone chips have been touched up.

  • General condition:

Wonderful condition, proving how to properly care for a car. Beautifully aged, with dignity and elegance intact.

Facts about the model

He refused to leave the premises. An intriguing story about the original owner is that he was in line to buy a Volkswagen when, during a visit to the dealer in Örebro, he discovered that another customer had jumped ahead in the queue. He then refused to leave the salesroom until he himself could leave with a car. Eventually, the Volkswagen dealer gave in to the persistent customer and offered him the option to buy the display car, but made a point of mentioning that it was equipped with extras priced at 850 kronor, which amounted to around 20 percent of the car's price. The dealer perhaps hoped that the determined customer would be deterred by the high cost, but it didn't work.
